Sylvia's Quilt

On Carla's blog on the Moda show and tell, she posted a picture of Sylvia's quilt.  When Sylvia brought it to me to quilt, we were at a bit of a loss of how to quilt it.  She had fused the appliqué in place and was worried about it lifting when the quilt was washed.  To try and quilt 1/8" in with a longarm, was a little to much for me.  So......

I went with the big swirly overall.  I could catch a few of the loose edges and nail them down, and the quilting is close enough together that nothing should lift when the quilt is washed.

Sylvia is going to use this as a couch quilt for herself.  Happy snuggling!

Dave's Quilt

Dave's retirement quilt was designed by my friend Terry.  She decided to piece a turning twenty background, and then appliqué a guitar on it.  Dave loves to play the Blues on his guitar so that is where Terry got her inspiration from.  Her son Logan drew out the guitar, Terry enlarged it and then appliquéd it in place.  She finished it with a little embroidery and some special buttons.

The quilting had to be music related, so.....

Dave received the quilt on his last day of work.

He promised Terry he would put it to good use.  Congratulations on your retirement Dave!

Hoffman Handpainted Batik Strips

This is my latest creation using one of the new Bali Pops, to be released to stores this month.

Using inspiration from a Moda Bake shop pattern, and my 60 degree ruler, I created this quilt for myself.  I backed it with an orange minky fabric.  It will be the perfect couch quilt.

The quilting was inspired by Angela Walters.  I used a variegated King Tut thread that had orange, yellow, red and pink.  Perfect for this quilt.  I can hardly wait to snuggle under it!

Geraldine's Quilt

Once again I felt so honoured when Geraldine ask me to quilt her latest sampler.  If you want to see the quilt in person, attend the Sun Peaks quilt show this July as it will be there.

She started with her 4 1/2" Dear Jane blocks and then added in a few traditional and a few modern blocks.  Not having enough fabric for the border resulted in blocks in the border.  I love the entire setting and may have to borrow it for a future sampler quilt!

Geraldine gave me the okay to quilt however I wanted.  Oh what fun it was!

Fred's Quilt

A few years ago I had made a quilt from a panel, for a special friend.  I started making a second quilt from the same panel, right away.  The project got put aside because something else was more important, and I didn't have anyone I wanted to give it to.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago when my buddy Fred was retiring from work.  I knew the quilt would be perfect for him, so I dug it out of the unfinished pile, and got to work.  I managed to get it in done just in time.  What do you think?  Does he look happy with it?

Fred's wife sent me a message that he had it laid out on the couch for her to see as soon as she walked in from work.  He then put it on their bed so they could sleep under it.  Ahhhhhh!

I tried out this style of quilting on the quilt.  I love it!  I have since quilted a two other quilts using this overall pattern.  Just way to much fun.

Hour Glass Finish

My Hour Glass Quilt is finished.

I had so much fun making this quilt, I couldn't wait to get it finished.  The colours make me think of spring, which lucky for us, has arrived in Kamloops.  Yard work and lazing in the sun, have cut down a little on my time in the quilt room.  However, it is predicted to rain for a few days, so I just might have time to finish the next quilt from "Scrap Basket Beauties."

To quilt this quilt I went with an all over design.  My Continuous Mums added just enough texture to the quilt.  I used a soft green thread so as to not overpower the white background.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and happy sewing!
