Splash Finish

I finally quilted my Bali Tile quilt made from the Splash Tiles.  Great fun.  I used a pack of tiles, a pack of snaps and a background and border fabric.  Set on point the tiles really shine!

I felt so good about finishing this quilt, I rewarded myself with a little present.

A layer cake of "Wishes."  Don't you just love the pre-cuts?

Today I am linking up with Amanda over at Crazy Mom.  Check it out to see who else has managed a finish this week.

Little Black Dress Finish

Now that was fun!!!!  The Disappearing Pinwheel block is somewhat addictive.  Beware!!!!!
Check out my previous post for a link to the video.

Once you have made one, you just have to make another.  The postie's had a quilt day yesterday so we were playing with the block.  Nine blocks made a perfect baby quilt.  This is the original setting in the video.  Pieced, quilted, bound and ready to go.

Have you tried any new quilting technique lately?

Disappearing Pinwheel

Well, the Missouri Quilt Company has done it again!  Another wonderful tutorial available here.  My blog friend Karen had posted a picture of her block, so……… I just had to make one.

I pulled out a little bit of "Little Black Dress II" and gave it a whirl.

Start with two contrasting 10" squares (Layer cake.)

Sew all around the edge and then slash twice diagonally.

Press and then stitch to make a large pinwheel.

Slash the pinwheel into thirds in both horizontally and vertically.

And then decide which placement you like best.  Be sure to check out the video highlighted above for more detailed instructions.

As soon as I get the rest of my blocks done, I'll post a pic.  Have a great day!!!!!

Stash Buster's Wrap Up!

I hope everyone had a great time with the Stash Buster Blocks.  The last block went up at midnight last Sunday, and by noon I had received a picture of a finished quilt top.  Way to go Katherin.  Linda and Joanne followed shortly thereafter with their finished tops.  You women amaze me!!!!  Check out our flickr page to see these tops.

I did manage to get my blocks into tops.  Somehow I missed taking a picture of one top, so that will follow at a later date.

First up, the reproduction blocks.  I had only made 18 blocks in this colour way so I decided to set them on point.

Next, the modern quilt blocks made from V and Co. fabric.  The blank blocks up the middle are my space to do a little extra quilting.  I just couldn't resist.

From the batik blocks I made two quilts.  The first is this one, eight blocks on point.  The second one is the missing picture of twelve blocks set with sashing.

Now I just need to find a little time to get these quilts quilted.  LOL.

Stash Busters Quilt Along Week 20

We made it!!!!!  The last of our 20 blocks for the Quilt Along.  Are you up to date?  LOL.

This is my version of a modified log cabin block.

Start with a 2 1/2" square.  From 1 1/2" wide scraps you will need one 2 1/2" strip, two 3 1/2" strips, two 4 1/2" strips, two 5 1/2" strips and one 6 1/2" strip.  This is the amount needed for each quarter of the block.  I know some of you are down to your last few scraps, so I thought this was a great way to use up those last little bits.  I did use a contrasting light colour for the last two strips so that there was a  secondary design within the block.

Sew the strips in the order shown, carrying on till all are added.  Make three more 6 1/2" blocks.

Plan your lay out and sew together.

This would be a really fun block to play with in a quilt.

Now for the last prize for the quilt along.

An autographed copy of "New York Beauty Diversified."  I am going to draw for this on February 15th so that everyone has a chance to get their blocks done, and hopefully a few finished tops will be posted.  I hope to have my three tops finished shortly and will post pics to give you a few ideas for settings.

Betty's Quilt

Lately I have been quilting quite a few appliqué quilts.  Today, I would like to share with you Betty's quilt.

Betty's quilt was a pleasure to work with.  Her appliqué is always stunning.

The Celtic hearts in the border were a bit of a challenge to outline, but I persevered.

Such wonderful detail in the blocks.  Thanks Betty for letting me quilt this one!!!!

Stash Busters Quilt Along Week 19

EEEKKKK!  We are almost finished.

These weeks block is called "Coin in my pocket."  I get a newsletter from a quilt shop in Winnipeg, and this was their featured block.  It looked fun and QUICK, so I decided it was a go.

The two bigger corners are cut from a 6 1/2" strip and the Easy Angle Ruler.  The remainder of the block is cut from 3 1/2" strips.  You need six background squares, four feature fabric squares and four Easy Angle units.

Sew the pieces together as shown.

And there you go, finished.  Now, wasn't that easy?

I promise next week's block will be real easy, and then on to putting our blocks together.  I will try to have mine together for two weeks from now.  The key word there is try!

I did draw for the prize for December.  The winner is Woodraven, translated to Deanna. Congrats to Deanna!  I will post shortly for the prize for January.
