The Real Blocks 35 & 36

Well, last weeks blocks were the wrong blocks.  Now how does that happen?  They were this weeks blocks 37 & 38.  This week I'm posting pics of last weeks 35 & 36.  Are  you confused yet?

So, where do you think they are now?

They are hanging around with a bunch of bananas.  What fun.  They went on a little holiday with Grant and Rosemarie to..........

Nuevo Vallarta.

Thanks so much Rosemarie for taking them somewhere warm and sunny.

On a personal note, I'm still not getting much sewing done.  I'm on countdown to my daughters wedding. Only six days to go!!!!!!!!  So much to do, so little time.

My Morroccan Tiles Quilt

Recently I quilted Carla's Morroccan Tiles Quilt.  I loved it so much, I had to get started on one of my own.

Now talk about a stash buster!  I used 104 strips cut at 2 1/2" to make this quilt.  Some of the fabric is at least 18 years old.  I know this because I had bought it at a store that has been closed about that long.  I mixed in a few newer scraps I had laying around and all in all, I'm very pleased with the result.  The fabric I used for the border is a bit of fabric that Carla had given me a while back, and I thought it was the perfect quilt to use it on.  Thanks Carla for both the fabric, and the inspiration.  I'm not sure when I will get this one quilted, I'm a little pressed for time right now.

I can't let the week go by without showing you the hexagon for week 17.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Farmer's Wife Blocks 35 & 36

Flower Basket and Flower Garden Path have gone away with a special friend.  Thanks Lorraine for sharing your holiday with us.

Does this help you figure out where they are?

How about this one?

In case you haven't guessed yet, they are in San Francisco!  A special thanks to Tibor for humouring Lorraine and I.

Something's Fishy

And that something is this cute little quilt that I just finished quilting for Marina.

She has made this quilt for her Grandchildren, though she said she might have to test drive it now and then.

Now for some exciting news.  I often enter giveaways thinking that I won't win, because I never do.  Well, that has all changed.  One of the bloggers that I follow, Stephanie was having a giveaway of a jelly roll.  I entered and I actually won!

This is Objects of Desire by Sandy Gervais.  So Sweet!.  Not sure what I'll make it into yet, but what fun. Click on Stephanie's name above and check out her blog.  She always has wonderful pictures of the Pacific Northwest.

This is week 16 of the Hexagons.  It's amazing how fast the weeks are sliding by.  Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

Farmer's Wife Blocks 33 & 34

Farmer's Puzzle and Flock are on vacation.  Can you guess where?

Maybe this picture will help.

Don't know who this guy is holding them, love you Thom, but you think he could smile while his picture is being taken.

Thom was kind enough once again to take my blocks on a trip.  This time they are in Salt Lake City at the Home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  Looks like a beautiful place, maybe I'll get there one day.

JoAnn sent me a picture of last weeks Farmer's Daughter block.  Beautiful colours.  The title to her email was  11/16 inch REALLY!  Yes really, that was one of the measurements.  Glad she is playing along, I love her sense of humour.

Blueberry Crumb Cake

Mmmmmm, good!  I love the fabric line by Blackbird Design called Blueberry Crumb Cake.  I bought a layer cake and a little fabric for the borders, and this is the result.

Recently I quilted a quilt for Barb using this pattern.  I loved the simplicity of the pattern and just had to try it.

Start with a 10 inch square from the layer cake pack.  Cut it into two 2 1/2" strips, and then cut the remainder into one 5" square and two 2 1/2" x 5" pieces.  Repeat for the remaining 41 fabrics in the pack.

Now pick one 5" square and a contrasting set of 2 1/2" pieces.  Sew the 2 1/2" x 5" pieces to opposite sides of the square, then add the 2 1/2" x 10" pieces.

Square the block up to about 9".  Lay all the blocks out in a 6 x 7 set.  Rotate every second block so that you don't have any seams within the blocks that have to be matched.  Sew together and then add borders as desired.  I added a 1 1/2" inner border and a 6" outer border.

I quilted with a rose in the block and then leaves over the rest.

And of course I can't forget this weeks hexagon.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Would You Help?

I came across a blog last Sunday via a blog I follow.  Michele ask the question "Would you help?"  I had a few minutes to spare so I decided that yes, I would help.  This is the block I made and have since sent to Waterford, NY.

I found a block on Quilter's Cache that I adapted to meet the criteria of being red, black and white, 12 inch finished block and an eight pointed star.  If you think you can help, click on Michele's name above and send her a message.

Have a wonderful day!

What a Beautiful Day

The sun was shining, the Easter Bunny made an appearance, life is grand!  It is time for the Farmer's Wife blocks to make an entrance, so here they are.

Evening Star and Farmer's Daughter decided to head to the park and enjoy the sights.

The local vintage car club was holding their annual easter parade.

My blocks tried hanging out on a tree, but the picture wasn't the best, so we had to go searching for a better location.

No better location than on the hood of Chris's Corvette.  Look at Chris all decked out in her Sunday Bonnet.  Thanks for humouring me!

Laylah and Julie joined Doug and I for this adventure.  Laylah was so thrilled when the Easter Bunny added to her stash of candy.  Doug was trying real hard to not drool on any of the cars.

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!

A Fun Pinwheel Class

Last Saturday I was teaching a pinwheel class for the local guild.  What a lot of fun!  The fourteen women came with a variety of fabrics, making for an exciting show and tell of blocks.

The pinwheel block has a peeled back centre, making the block look three dimensional.

This is my quilt.  I can hardly wait to see what the class participants come up with for their quilts.  Some were talking diagonal sets, some wanted sashing.  They will be bringing their finished tops to guild in May so I will be sharing pictures then.

And I can't forget this weeks Hexagon!

Farmer's Wife Blocks 29 & 30

This weeks blocks are on a road trip!  Economy and End of Day road along with Thom, heading north of Kamloops along Highway 5.

The first stop way along the North Thompson River.  This area was devastated by a wild fire in 2003, but is rebounding well.  Still a gorgeous spot for a picture.

Next up was a pit stop at Clearwater, home to Wells Gray Park.  A wonderful spot to camp and enjoy the natural beauty of B.C.

The Mount Robson Park sign has never looked so good.  Did you notice the fresh snow?

Of course on a road trip you have to stop and enjoy the mountains.  Did you know we had a Mount Tekarra in Canada?  Now you do.

The turn around point of the trip was Jasper.  A great destination where the true beauty is in the mountains.

Wow!  My blocks made the trip, including pictures in one very long day for Thom.  Thanks so much for stopping to take pictures and putting up with the weird looks from tourists as you taped my blocks to sign posts everywhere.  Love you Thom!

A Harley Quilt

Yes, you read right, a Harley Quilt.  This quilt has a batik in it that has a Harley stamped on it.  Noeline made this special quilt for the local Harley group to use to raise funds for charity.

The back of the quilt is a burnt orange minky.  This is a quilt that I'm sure any Harley rider would love to curl up under while watching the Canucks game.  Right Dale!
