Cotton and Steel has arrived in Kamloops!

Woohoo!  Katja's Quilt Shoppe received the entire collection of Cotton and Steel on Friday. Now I get to show you what I've been playing with.

 I couldn't wait to help get the wrapping off the bolts, and cut a little to take home with me!

The horse linen is one of my favourites.  I used it to make this Bravo Bag that I know I will put to good use.  The back pocket is big enough for my iPad to fit in.  The front pocket has a little leash for attaching keys to.  Gone are the days of digging through my purse trying to find the keys.

I wasn't sure if I wanted a button on the back but….

I saw this button made by 2goodclaymates in Katja's shop, and I decided I had to have it.

Deanna's Modern Sampler

Today's quilt is a beauty!  Deanna followed along with my Modern Sampler Quilt Along.  This is the result!

The sun shining through adds a little extra sparkle.

The theme of the fabrics was bright with polka dots.  While quilting it I tried to come up with a few new designs within the blocks.  The dog bones are probably my favourite.

Deanna just sent me a picture of a quilt that I had quilted for her earlier this year, that she gave to some friends for their anniversary.

The same pattern I used for Melissa's quilt in the previous post.  The couple look very pleased with their quilt!  Great job on both of the quilts Deanna!

A Beautiful Bride

My niece Melissa was married to the most amazing man recently.  I met Wayne on the day that he arrived at my brother's house, to meet the family for the first time.  He had a great sense of humour and tolerated Crazy Auntie Linda Hugs.  Since then I have gotten to know him so much better and I am delighted that he is the newest member of the family.

Of course I made them a quilt, but first, pictures of the wedding.

The wedding was held overlooking the river at Pit Meadows.  A little comic relief was provided when a boater going by yelled "don't do it."  Well they did do it, and in fine style!

Melissa has always been so dedicated to her family.  Here she is surrounded by Deandra and Allawna.  Three beautiful sisters, I couldn't be more proud of them all.

The little brothers weren't left out.  Ibrahim and Idris looked very dapper in their suits.

And now for the quilt.

Melissa said her and Wayne loved Blue and Green.  I pulled out an older Bali Pop called Blue Hawaiian, my Scrap Basket Surprise book, and made this for the two of them to enjoy.

Kamloops Modern Quilt Group Show and Tell

I wasn't able to attend this month's meeting so Barb took the pictures and passed them on to me to post. Thanks Barb!

A Lovely Bunch of Quilts

Last June the local guild was short of quilts for the Ministry to give to kids in care.  I promised myself I would have a few ready for them in September.

With the help of friends, I was able to drop seven off this Wednesday at the Community Quilts Day.  Most of the backings are "Fireside" courtesy of Trendtex Fabrics and Noeline.  The battings are Bamboo courtesy of Noeline.  A big thank you!!!

These three tops were donated by Deborah in Castlegar.  Another big Thank You!

Blanche wanted to help show off this cute little quilt.  The fabric is "One for You, One for Me" by Pat Sloan.  The pattern is Disappearing Pinwheel.

I reached deep into my basket of tops for this Split Nine Patch.

This Alien panel by Sue Marsh was so much fun to make.

And one for the Construction fan.  This quilt was lanquishing in my closet and I though it was time it was played with.

A Harley T-Shirt Quilt

 This Harley quilt was a project that I helped a friend make, for a friend of hers.

It was so large that when I hung it from my deck, it was laying in the Peonies below.

The T-Shirts were a collection of Harley shirts from around the world.  The farthest away was Rome, and of course there was one from right here at home in Kamloops.

The San Francisco block shows the quilting the best.  At first I was going to quilt with black thread, and then I decided to use a variegated black and white.  I was really happy with the choice.

A couple of the shirts were very stretchy and therefore required a little more attention while quilting. As well, a couple had a lot of rubberized material in the logo that caused a few problems with skipped stitches.  Despite all this, I was thrilled with the way this quilt turned out. I just hope the recipient is as happy as I am!

It's Elementary!

By Sweetwater.  I could not resist this fabric when I first saw it.  It is delicious!

In my stash I had the perfect grunge to go with the line of fabric.

Of course the pattern is from my current favourite book, Beyond Neutral.  When I took the quilt into Katja's, she had just finished cutting six inch strips of the complete collection.  Perfect for making the quilt!
