June is here so this will be our last block for the year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5WJthnQircTJRsz2BYtAG2LEb1TWtcMTy6239hsRv7gXj03P-MRqVzapVKGZWv6ij92uujfQsaAh0djjNR4Rm91gwDrvCQ6YmM0KwgbOvZaG9-Rp9FgFV9qZ_EmrS9DBEC2qZVrndtw/s1600/IMG_6961.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5WJthnQircTJRsz2BYtAG2LEb1TWtcMTy6239hsRv7gXj03P-MRqVzapVKGZWv6ij92uujfQsaAh0djjNR4Rm91gwDrvCQ6YmM0KwgbOvZaG9-Rp9FgFV9qZ_EmrS9DBEC2qZVrndtw/s320/IMG_6961.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This block uses my favourite ruler, the Tri-Recs. Not to worry if you don't have the ruler as I'll give you another option to make the block.<br />
<br />
To start you will need a 3 1/2" strip of both background and feature fabric. Also, a 6 1/2" square of background fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLu72e1N5lRbkkc7Y5fQETm3yG029VqLs_igFUx7wArEIDQ6cZTdOCvGcgZJh6eiOa4UEdr3OBA40xofRRrm1kpJGQrNMedFBt4scAN0ZcgKI418N9GQWdLODt5RFa6e4hALrv8q_A1Q/s1600/IMG_6953.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1432" data-original-width="1600" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLu72e1N5lRbkkc7Y5fQETm3yG029VqLs_igFUx7wArEIDQ6cZTdOCvGcgZJh6eiOa4UEdr3OBA40xofRRrm1kpJGQrNMedFBt4scAN0ZcgKI418N9GQWdLODt5RFa6e4hALrv8q_A1Q/s320/IMG_6953.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
From the feature fabric strip cut eight units using the Tri part of the ruler set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6FbcLFIy5kZh58gX_svZoU-nlvJa0F__xk_J566SEjQ4NJ9lellve4SfdPxzCZ-jSYNNJ7lQJ8UxTH_CWAjIkXPRqLAKj0k7KEcBXA_I-dCxKvepqKv4dPEollj0avH-LyMHfMQne9g/s1600/IMG_6954.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1472" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6FbcLFIy5kZh58gX_svZoU-nlvJa0F__xk_J566SEjQ4NJ9lellve4SfdPxzCZ-jSYNNJ7lQJ8UxTH_CWAjIkXPRqLAKj0k7KEcBXA_I-dCxKvepqKv4dPEollj0avH-LyMHfMQne9g/s320/IMG_6954.jpeg" width="294" /></a></div>
<br />
Fold the background strip with wrong sides together and cut eight pairs using the Recs part of the ruler. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrGi-i0xlViaERlNYhMrxDZKPaS-9fH5rDrg45sBuD6dwXkxesUhyphenhyphenX2KAFg1suPETB3cQ1YdktQji_udZjZVb2VPKs4QHp19eGWIDaiN9995KmZPW2tEbtxKr2xiaGwRfU_f77G6aTBw/s1600/IMG_6955.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrGi-i0xlViaERlNYhMrxDZKPaS-9fH5rDrg45sBuD6dwXkxesUhyphenhyphenX2KAFg1suPETB3cQ1YdktQji_udZjZVb2VPKs4QHp19eGWIDaiN9995KmZPW2tEbtxKr2xiaGwRfU_f77G6aTBw/s320/IMG_6955.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Line the pieces up as shown.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE_T7oM4qhkRrXPWSAUt5C0aPYwUMccaq5QowM3jTEV5HP8vT1_Lp-eoBtCF8emtqrP-5J38Z8w5gPi_-o_2S_aIzbzPQnUXkH618pYepRD_ybrc1pQMw1vYrLS9Jra9_4eTDF3dC8cw/s1600/IMG_6956.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1476" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE_T7oM4qhkRrXPWSAUt5C0aPYwUMccaq5QowM3jTEV5HP8vT1_Lp-eoBtCF8emtqrP-5J38Z8w5gPi_-o_2S_aIzbzPQnUXkH618pYepRD_ybrc1pQMw1vYrLS9Jra9_4eTDF3dC8cw/s320/IMG_6956.jpeg" width="295" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew the background piece to one side and then press the seam towards the background piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpuZ1JuH0Gmxt8KOi2C1rTaOUqrOAEvG1h0YuNornxS1Rg-WTw85kpC3ejty_2Q_0BrLTP_M2HhgRDMN6QZpQXaANB8kFNGrKjcb_SKfIPko5fPhdQBjLmjDSQ3IrZFl2631m9UZ7A0Q/s1600/IMG_6958.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1548" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpuZ1JuH0Gmxt8KOi2C1rTaOUqrOAEvG1h0YuNornxS1Rg-WTw85kpC3ejty_2Q_0BrLTP_M2HhgRDMN6QZpQXaANB8kFNGrKjcb_SKfIPko5fPhdQBjLmjDSQ3IrZFl2631m9UZ7A0Q/s320/IMG_6958.jpeg" width="309" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew the other side on and you have one Tri-Recs unit. Make eight of these units. From the background strip cut four 3 1/2" squares.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifP8qCouvd9e134N2MyA4fbjNf_539QiT0TbxuTWmv3lYj1oCTY8tiLJVGmyYyuwjCvedgBptXe8q65AiMc-y4ilVEph1SFR1w4maqZczoUiGa4I9Dom0vfMi4oZCLPxdKpH-6lHg4zw/s1600/IMG_6962.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifP8qCouvd9e134N2MyA4fbjNf_539QiT0TbxuTWmv3lYj1oCTY8tiLJVGmyYyuwjCvedgBptXe8q65AiMc-y4ilVEph1SFR1w4maqZczoUiGa4I9Dom0vfMi4oZCLPxdKpH-6lHg4zw/s320/IMG_6962.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew two units together hopefully lining up your points a little better than I did. Make four sets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ8zx3T-XpyGTJOQ7TlEQ8SA1bgif5K14DI9k-5Ac7IZUpQtlnJxZCcSt_fMd9s-1SnFlfDebpVg32dNDkfqLkfTWHT3trXLOfWAR_ZQhpE1NWIvJqhP1Peckf1vOczGSTDhudhxFHdg/s1600/IMG_6963.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1580" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ8zx3T-XpyGTJOQ7TlEQ8SA1bgif5K14DI9k-5Ac7IZUpQtlnJxZCcSt_fMd9s-1SnFlfDebpVg32dNDkfqLkfTWHT3trXLOfWAR_ZQhpE1NWIvJqhP1Peckf1vOczGSTDhudhxFHdg/s320/IMG_6963.jpeg" width="316" /></a></div>
<br />
Lay out all the pieces of the block as shown and sew together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQcEWdlPj2dlFahNRPc1NXnWJVXBlnW7m8Z-iV5wAk3OU0fVZk_k_0_iLEVrrXQpmIFFk9YHZqa1ie_V_yQxFjlxpp2POI775ojGsqu_zEaL4IhlXP1BxnMWmczlRq8gjJj03eS6HHNQ/s1600/IMG_6964.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQcEWdlPj2dlFahNRPc1NXnWJVXBlnW7m8Z-iV5wAk3OU0fVZk_k_0_iLEVrrXQpmIFFk9YHZqa1ie_V_yQxFjlxpp2POI775ojGsqu_zEaL4IhlXP1BxnMWmczlRq8gjJj03eS6HHNQ/s320/IMG_6964.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the effect of curves without having sewn a curve.<br />
<br />
If you don't have the ruler you can draw up the units on paper and foundation paper piece.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9fgPohYRZPzo-_IX4nWxwXXJTk8Xy3raiw6Th69KglksVf6WMePqhP3WtkyjuxETGw2UEOkD76JAIakjgQi5064WJVEPHxokX-2TzDHGWZbph-1txAdnS71miGO3mtTl8gS82EbkuMQ/s1600/IMG_7035.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1541" data-original-width="1600" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9fgPohYRZPzo-_IX4nWxwXXJTk8Xy3raiw6Th69KglksVf6WMePqhP3WtkyjuxETGw2UEOkD76JAIakjgQi5064WJVEPHxokX-2TzDHGWZbph-1txAdnS71miGO3mtTl8gS82EbkuMQ/s320/IMG_7035.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Draw a 3" square and add a mark at the top centre of the square. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuLxfvMfZoW47u5NazYPo_m81lAxbyXkmXS4c3Yjz7YoitSC663dqeGbm6NNaqScT_jRXTKhD4HLTK45yqdnuEeRrKkC7ZwcDqnjFqzNoAPqBolaKoI_uzn7odjoaGR0mU4_sFUXQzkA/s1600/IMG_7036.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1523" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuLxfvMfZoW47u5NazYPo_m81lAxbyXkmXS4c3Yjz7YoitSC663dqeGbm6NNaqScT_jRXTKhD4HLTK45yqdnuEeRrKkC7ZwcDqnjFqzNoAPqBolaKoI_uzn7odjoaGR0mU4_sFUXQzkA/s320/IMG_7036.jpeg" width="304" /></a></div>

Add lines from the corners as shown.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These two blocks are Paulette's interpretation of my rather vague instructions. Love her colour choices on both of these.<br />
<br />
Have fun and thanks for playing along!</div>

This months block is brought to us by Paulette. First up is a traditionally pieced block. Scroll down for a few modern interpretations.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVAIZYgceCmWDb35_4OOMKZAFP6GGVIQppnRveO5aDqQNiFKvICMmidj_uIQFTxo-u049NWFk2oRq8KPaThzwyorxUkuXvPE-NRnlJ3l3XeY38qrWVetxZWBplFCr-7PGSngEp1CWlUg/s1600/IMG_6948.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="538" data-original-width="583" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVAIZYgceCmWDb35_4OOMKZAFP6GGVIQppnRveO5aDqQNiFKvICMmidj_uIQFTxo-u049NWFk2oRq8KPaThzwyorxUkuXvPE-NRnlJ3l3XeY38qrWVetxZWBplFCr-7PGSngEp1CWlUg/s320/IMG_6948.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was sent lovely images of the process, but unfortunately they wouldn't work on the blogger platform. So you get written instructions only.<br />
<br />
Cut a 10 1/2" piece of background fabric. From the hashtag fabric cut two 2" x 10 1/2" pieces and two 2" x 12 1/2" pieces.<br />
<br />
Cut the background fabric into three pieces 3 1/2" x 10 1/2".<br />
<br />
Sew the shorter hashtag pieces between the background rectangles. Turn and cut into 3 1/2" x 12 1/2" pieces.<br />
<br />
Sew the remaining hashtag strips between the rectangles. Throughout the block press the seams towards the hashtag fabric.<br />
<br />
Now for a few more blocks from Paulette.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
For my version I started with a 10" block. I cut it into 3 1/2" strips on the outer edges and a 3" strip in the centre. I added 2" x 10" hashtag fabric strips between the rectangles.<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /><div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I turned the block and then slashed at an angle as shown. The second cut is the same angle, 3" away.</div>
<div>

<div>
<br />I sewed the hashtag fabric cut into 2' x 12" strips between the pieces. I then squared it up to 10 1/2" and added a 1 1/2" sashing around the block to bring it up to 12 1/2".<br />

This month's block is brought to us by Carol. Carol wants everyone to let their creativity take over so that they can make a unique block.<br />
<br />
To start, pick a background fabric and cut a 13 inch square. After your appliqué is done, you can trim it to 12 1/2.<br />
<br />
Decide how many and what size you want your circles to be. Audition circles by using a paper pattern.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFkE7y7zrIcjp7nJbCp-7MkqvELZxG6_ithaw4cpLf8ejV6riDde3tSAmn7DWWoIz3ZD4Z3uG9DswgDuqAjuNIk95_FIHJ5Ba0WNcvENM3LpaXyLBnCtG6MjMSoAtP_C6MRCNebji83A/s1600/IMG_6902.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFkE7y7zrIcjp7nJbCp-7MkqvELZxG6_ithaw4cpLf8ejV6riDde3tSAmn7DWWoIz3ZD4Z3uG9DswgDuqAjuNIk95_FIHJ5Ba0WNcvENM3LpaXyLBnCtG6MjMSoAtP_C6MRCNebji83A/s320/IMG_6902.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I decided to use some acrylic templates I had instead of paper.<br />
<br />
Appliqué your circles by any method you prefer. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPom8k4iFYZQh7fazJlOPW-RvoudI5i710hv58SlHKKase_jhMhhmQiIbWM4hktyLDQ1-HbuxKJ3qTZM5kMSco9Q79SzC3W9CXwH9VZyV3wTMT4EJ67grBWLGmww6cgSkVdQ8XTHPoKA/s1600/IMG_6906.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1562" data-original-width="1600" height="312" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPom8k4iFYZQh7fazJlOPW-RvoudI5i710hv58SlHKKase_jhMhhmQiIbWM4hktyLDQ1-HbuxKJ3qTZM5kMSco9Q79SzC3W9CXwH9VZyV3wTMT4EJ67grBWLGmww6cgSkVdQ8XTHPoKA/s320/IMG_6906.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I fused my circles in place. As you can see, I changed my mind on the smaller circle size and varied the placement a bit. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUTmI4dzTvByoTEjAE_w5vA2Ro43ssocQDb_nRu7kg6F6bNgRcOUohx_4mVr-DbisXTGpBUDssG1uy2KoloYHGH7PynMSqpx5nSxiGffmGPgq6Cz1T9VQF0FiKQHARfAFhqg32T_y6OA/s1600/IMG_6909.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1052" data-original-width="785" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUTmI4dzTvByoTEjAE_w5vA2Ro43ssocQDb_nRu7kg6F6bNgRcOUohx_4mVr-DbisXTGpBUDssG1uy2KoloYHGH7PynMSqpx5nSxiGffmGPgq6Cz1T9VQF0FiKQHARfAFhqg32T_y6OA/s320/IMG_6909.jpeg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
Paulette is still trying to decide which placement she prefers. The strip on the background fabric is made up with circles. She has taken circles to the extreme. <br />
<br />
I can hardly wait to see what Carol has come up with! Have fun everyone.</div>

This month's block is brought to you by Paulette. The block is "Adori" and it comes from Kirsty's Bonjour Quilts blog. Click <a href="https://www.bonjourquilts.com/quilt-block-tutorial-adori/#comments">HERE</a> to go to the complete tutorial.<br />
<br />
Kirsty uses a great approach to a log cabinish block. Strata are created, and then cut to make the necessary log cabin pieces. Since the blocks are 12" square, they are perfect for our quilt-along. Just nine blocks and you have a great Preemie quilt if that is your preference.<br />

<br />
Paulette and I have made a selection of blocks. Any colour combination works. You need three feature fabrics and a bit of background fabric. We hope you give it a try.<br />

These blocks show how different the block can look, depending on your fabric choice.<br />
<br />
Have a great day!<br />

This month's block is a Modern Dresden. A traditional Dresden is made up of 18 degree wedges. I decided to use a 15 degree wedge. You may use whatever size you wish. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRX82k9lNPI7_SpzZ1DBNpPSqDvy8OUdXQ9zEOUtvVt_tyIrXC3f_VQ3UBOGfgXgZlxMyu8KjFRGWij0q3_yhIAN4sSWY6IUkDLdHNBJHfbNxGOkPz_Z5aXAsDIZ7Z9rNTV6ryry0a1A/s1600/IMG_6799.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1570" data-original-width="1600" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRX82k9lNPI7_SpzZ1DBNpPSqDvy8OUdXQ9zEOUtvVt_tyIrXC3f_VQ3UBOGfgXgZlxMyu8KjFRGWij0q3_yhIAN4sSWY6IUkDLdHNBJHfbNxGOkPz_Z5aXAsDIZ7Z9rNTV6ryry0a1A/s320/IMG_6799.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I started with a variety of scrap strips, from 2 1/2" to 3 1 /2" wide.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw2UfJUgBMxtGjbY0U-wn8CKuYuD0OB-9BFD5-dSbFdHuZHnD7dY_ABgmBsGQAk8mrO0uy8sXA8yePOEuCkK_0nlNr7DDQ6plDWghpXSfc_t_voHeqae2WWP_vc4bos9PcAh80NuxeyQ/s1600/IMG_6792.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw2UfJUgBMxtGjbY0U-wn8CKuYuD0OB-9BFD5-dSbFdHuZHnD7dY_ABgmBsGQAk8mrO0uy8sXA8yePOEuCkK_0nlNr7DDQ6plDWghpXSfc_t_voHeqae2WWP_vc4bos9PcAh80NuxeyQ/s320/IMG_6792.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I added a 3 1/2" strip of background to each side of the scraps.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIkWiovGplele3DADET9eUCqv13X5oMpI8bIO0fOY96STrQWTVP0v9NZNnjFh4mKEEc9HDFuELZ1l-f3Yp380Xri7RvcJopqR3P1PExj6dSM6_UAq4UpQ39dHZjkxShCLoRBeJENRquQ/s1600/IMG_6793.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIkWiovGplele3DADET9eUCqv13X5oMpI8bIO0fOY96STrQWTVP0v9NZNnjFh4mKEEc9HDFuELZ1l-f3Yp380Xri7RvcJopqR3P1PExj6dSM6_UAq4UpQ39dHZjkxShCLoRBeJENRquQ/s320/IMG_6793.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up was cutting wedges with my 15 degree ruler.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh63UmSW1S8rR7UoezLGk6JKCovhUfgGpg-g5km_lEIU3cnQgsv7GpPg3fqhSs09VGUtuYKKRWzBjmULew7p0yc8hMNtad74q-n9OnnhIFWMonWGUUSTeJRoKNYv7YNlFeCeCHkVcwDdQ/s1600/IMG_6795.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh63UmSW1S8rR7UoezLGk6JKCovhUfgGpg-g5km_lEIU3cnQgsv7GpPg3fqhSs09VGUtuYKKRWzBjmULew7p0yc8hMNtad74q-n9OnnhIFWMonWGUUSTeJRoKNYv7YNlFeCeCHkVcwDdQ/s320/IMG_6795.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifEDbEFt3vuR_wFKCThIxSOkbi6GEfIkKpnIBh6_T02NIgnZhJo6zBrmNYp6bF2M94EqGaHGCFKKI9yTWAi24vky6xZufskwf7XXTqcmMsBc4C8V9YTREdJKC-inJ8z4woEKpbEM5vsw/s1600/IMG_6794.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifEDbEFt3vuR_wFKCThIxSOkbi6GEfIkKpnIBh6_T02NIgnZhJo6zBrmNYp6bF2M94EqGaHGCFKKI9yTWAi24vky6xZufskwf7XXTqcmMsBc4C8V9YTREdJKC-inJ8z4woEKpbEM5vsw/s320/IMG_6794.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I varied where I placed the ruler so that I would get different amounts of background top and bottom. For the corners of the blocks make sure the wedge is at least 9 inches long. You will need twenty four wedges if using the 15 degree ruler.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT-AF0Q4Y1msjnL1dGPCcVNO2nyph-KYt-8WU_2ujNdrQu3o_JPFopGrRuiyedWxQuUF1kr9ZOGaNu0qkYMxqGkTBqInw_BXcZO6_-p3gqCclhzyCkvrFKUhBB8NDAJHzQTT1m_NqkGg/s1600/IMG_6796.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT-AF0Q4Y1msjnL1dGPCcVNO2nyph-KYt-8WU_2ujNdrQu3o_JPFopGrRuiyedWxQuUF1kr9ZOGaNu0qkYMxqGkTBqInw_BXcZO6_-p3gqCclhzyCkvrFKUhBB8NDAJHzQTT1m_NqkGg/s320/IMG_6796.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lay out the wedges on a 12 1/2" ruler or on your cutting mat, making sure to cover the corners to the 12 1/2" mark.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZG8cs-Gi8isXLyfwG28jtUbMMG0ThmvQgsEl00GFlGmT__8N0pqcK1HzayF1BtTUSca5BsZTJrNW9f5IacoFF4sXdZIQVm00reClANmFupqNF2aB3e0gajTobbb9xlCUd59_Q-N7XtQ/s1600/IMG_6797.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZG8cs-Gi8isXLyfwG28jtUbMMG0ThmvQgsEl00GFlGmT__8N0pqcK1HzayF1BtTUSca5BsZTJrNW9f5IacoFF4sXdZIQVm00reClANmFupqNF2aB3e0gajTobbb9xlCUd59_Q-N7XtQ/s320/IMG_6797.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifwsjkbspQdyWrX1fD8STfiyg9_BXAgL7u8vfAebGH46ll_G1YwxXKrVXDIiPutfqO__ePyqBpn_ImM8oMQjS_sjX7AeNh5djdAy2pQGUcUVtcKXBdQBOe6CD45_sFpmtAU4eLCEBTcA/s1600/IMG_6798.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifwsjkbspQdyWrX1fD8STfiyg9_BXAgL7u8vfAebGH46ll_G1YwxXKrVXDIiPutfqO__ePyqBpn_ImM8oMQjS_sjX7AeNh5djdAy2pQGUcUVtcKXBdQBOe6CD45_sFpmtAU4eLCEBTcA/s320/IMG_6798.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When you are happy with your placement, start sewing together. Sew the wedges into pairs, then six together for a quarter of the block, and the all twenty four together. Trim the block to 12 1/2" and then add a circle of background fabric over the centre hole. <br />
<br />
Happy stitching.<br />
<br />

This months block is brought to us by Judy!<br />

<br />
The block is a modern leaf! To make it follow along with Judy's instructions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisaurbhAUwYrIkWnt5erEfJsYE-JzGa4quUUtpC3q4-sXPlkRCwLbZz8E-AT0v48NMYyOAtf4LqxNGSAo7rlQUdW-AaLHokHGbtin5LEyXesCwejZa6smHxb4LZdwPotaWOIPvFj6uGQ/s1600/IMG_5423.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisaurbhAUwYrIkWnt5erEfJsYE-JzGa4quUUtpC3q4-sXPlkRCwLbZz8E-AT0v48NMYyOAtf4LqxNGSAo7rlQUdW-AaLHokHGbtin5LEyXesCwejZa6smHxb4LZdwPotaWOIPvFj6uGQ/s320/IMG_5423.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Make a stroppy block 1 1/2" bigger than desired finished size. Judy made hers 4 1/2" so that the block would finish 3". Make a second block and cut the blocks, angling in opposite directions for each block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4gd4m2dlLCE9Zu8JJdKeAK5zWCDoHCAKoZT7P5jLccplgwmYbRc2F_uoCtR_gKMGS-2Lku30gyilIxQ2Ta4ZWdiNPtZOLG1iHfl6LnzacUI5OY34HeoHMSLQHXTywqgHRev3YU9Izng/s1600/IMG_5424.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4gd4m2dlLCE9Zu8JJdKeAK5zWCDoHCAKoZT7P5jLccplgwmYbRc2F_uoCtR_gKMGS-2Lku30gyilIxQ2Ta4ZWdiNPtZOLG1iHfl6LnzacUI5OY34HeoHMSLQHXTywqgHRev3YU9Izng/s320/IMG_5424.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew two mirror image pieces together with a 3/4" strip of stem fabric in the middle. Trim the block to the desired size and add connector corners of background that are finished size plus 1/2". Judy used 2" background squares for her 3" finished block.<br />
<br />
Judy made four leaf blocks in total so that when they are pieced together they will make a 6" finished block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Paulette's block is very elegant.<br />
<br />

<br />
My block is a little on the bright side. Paulette and I both used instructions available <a href="http://lindasquiltmania.blogspot.com/2013/12/stash-busters-quilt-along-week-15.html">here.</a> It is a blog post from a few years ago, with a link within it to the original directions for the block. <br />
<br />
Thank you to Judy for organizing and presenting this fun block for us.<br />
<br />
Happy Quilting!</div>

I stripped pieced six 1 1/2" strips, and then cut four pieces 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" and substituted them into the centre strip spot.<br />
<br />
Paulette came up with several variations on the theme.<br />

Offsetting the centre fabric makes for a great alternative.<br />
<br />
I have been shown a few blocks made from last months presentation. Wonderful. Paulette had hers ready to go in time for the meeting. Here are her pictures.<br />

<br />
The machine button hole stitch with variegated thread makes for a nice finish on her block.<br />
<br />
I'm looking forward to seeing lots of variations on this months block. Next months block will be brought to us by Judy. </div>

Rivervalley Quilters have asked for a block of the month to run for nine months, starting today. Paulette and I have agreed to head up a crew of "volunteers."<br />
<br />
The first block is presented by Dinah. It is her take on Hawaiian Appliqué Quilt Blocks.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
My version of a Hawaiian quilt block is a little different, I'm not sure it will make the final cut for my quilt, but it certainly was fun to make. <br />
<br />
Since all the blocks are going to be 12" finished (12 1/2"unfinished) I started designing my block with an eleven inch square piece of paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR43KCb3BxVQNgMKhYS_xxrmTdHqj2HzQJlZzqrijZzXm2inu6wX7CE-MvxsKhg5iC1mSqNHi3qgB3ool1ESlTY7C60C2G-NCyGgK_XMUMpVCaePZ-h4uIfCT8wWpNpfG92gbE0fOlwg/s1600/IMG_6430.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR43KCb3BxVQNgMKhYS_xxrmTdHqj2HzQJlZzqrijZzXm2inu6wX7CE-MvxsKhg5iC1mSqNHi3qgB3ool1ESlTY7C60C2G-NCyGgK_XMUMpVCaePZ-h4uIfCT8wWpNpfG92gbE0fOlwg/s320/IMG_6430.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I folded it in half on the diagonal, and then folded twice more on the diagonal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd4LVnoIazEjme6nQvpEj9heeB2SpfUfN3txcim3koQm6LDhanMNmoKGejwH8xi8HUD1uKgBSxe_p4bfv02nAR8d-7uhJLqtIN4LSjANeboAbENkH7v_qccU_D2yDNxDoMPGZP6Rl4zw/s1600/IMG_6435.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd4LVnoIazEjme6nQvpEj9heeB2SpfUfN3txcim3koQm6LDhanMNmoKGejwH8xi8HUD1uKgBSxe_p4bfv02nAR8d-7uhJLqtIN4LSjANeboAbENkH7v_qccU_D2yDNxDoMPGZP6Rl4zw/s320/IMG_6435.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I drew a funky design that no way resembles the beautiful leaves Dinah came up with.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9GYwp-IvThvmga6eOkFGbSgL5OA2Xat-4I3pJMXWf9uTAA1t2VtuTtO29luGZepnCIBHFd2Wq30bjK0xNDxW7-rlD4N2n-9kk45NppWMqMmPdq92oymKKjPr1k-aUFv6YgRjDz8vABg/s1600/IMG_6436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9GYwp-IvThvmga6eOkFGbSgL5OA2Xat-4I3pJMXWf9uTAA1t2VtuTtO29luGZepnCIBHFd2Wq30bjK0xNDxW7-rlD4N2n-9kk45NppWMqMmPdq92oymKKjPr1k-aUFv6YgRjDz8vABg/s320/IMG_6436.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When I cut it and opened it up, it looked like an ink blot, but I decided to go ahead with it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHItTidNDkE4IYg-TmjBY3uajBIWa3qthGEP35_y48fHXIbDeG0p13HHWMNXixNBaYfslMa_boM7FLDV0TMukRi5xwjFgtu71pOEVC5FVr11QK40l-vlXQ_0GcwJvXRSkUbt-cznFlrg/s1600/IMG_6437.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHItTidNDkE4IYg-TmjBY3uajBIWa3qthGEP35_y48fHXIbDeG0p13HHWMNXixNBaYfslMa_boM7FLDV0TMukRi5xwjFgtu71pOEVC5FVr11QK40l-vlXQ_0GcwJvXRSkUbt-cznFlrg/s320/IMG_6437.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I was fusing mine, I traced it onto fusible web and then cut some of the inner fusible out. This is to make the block not quite so stiff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4GpyIFv3zk2fdvj5TMBROCkNTReEyY1KCR4Gqw7n-kucEBhUyd-UysF9mqC4G5jt68pJ-gAAYjCN2WXLejd0bY8Xn7e7JB-N6T9lu97o91y22yt6fc1PYyq10r53HjbuqFJbLIWW5Gw/s1600/IMG_6438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4GpyIFv3zk2fdvj5TMBROCkNTReEyY1KCR4Gqw7n-kucEBhUyd-UysF9mqC4G5jt68pJ-gAAYjCN2WXLejd0bY8Xn7e7JB-N6T9lu97o91y22yt6fc1PYyq10r53HjbuqFJbLIWW5Gw/s320/IMG_6438.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I fused the web onto the back of my fabric and cut out on the lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNeUGAf8UV9Ar_0yEjxFpZ87KY4ViWCfIzyxviR0UPPSRBnTqAKR3mx3XuiG2wEEeB_smE4ZHupCFd6T71hW93nLlLAVwri6f3iIODrVnT0Yv3JMD6Mba09eeEiBrndOBeMn_dpBY0sA/s1600/IMG_6440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1560" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNeUGAf8UV9Ar_0yEjxFpZ87KY4ViWCfIzyxviR0UPPSRBnTqAKR3mx3XuiG2wEEeB_smE4ZHupCFd6T71hW93nLlLAVwri6f3iIODrVnT0Yv3JMD6Mba09eeEiBrndOBeMn_dpBY0sA/s320/IMG_6440.jpg" width="311" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut a thirteen inch square of background fabric and folded it on the diagonal and pressed to make some reference marks for placement of my ink blot. After fusing the blot, I stitched 1/8" in on all edges and then trimmed the block down to 12 1/2". <br />
<br />
Maybe my next try will be a true Hawaiian design that is reverse appliquéd like Dinah's. Stay tuned.<br />
<br />

Today is a tutorial day for a quick little baby quilt idea, that can also be used to make a smaller block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhznFmVfdmIKisMY5ko-GrQcMOWLBxn0wNSHTv3SEo3-8o9gAEXHxQGYof3P9x9ELwGIRjnxcLdniUNyxVup4Y65f8S1SKh314j6rjQxmagSattwAXiz1LGfC3Z67Kmrz1trG_ZRFiIOA/s1600/IMG_5931.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1593" data-original-width="1600" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhznFmVfdmIKisMY5ko-GrQcMOWLBxn0wNSHTv3SEo3-8o9gAEXHxQGYof3P9x9ELwGIRjnxcLdniUNyxVup4Y65f8S1SKh314j6rjQxmagSattwAXiz1LGfC3Z67Kmrz1trG_ZRFiIOA/s320/IMG_5931.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This technique popped up recently on my Facebook feed. I decided to do the math and come up with a quilt that finished around 36 inches, for a preemie quilt.<br />
<br />
Start with eighteen 2 1/2" strips of fabric. Piece together end to end, and then cut into thirteen pieces that are 2 1/2" x 55".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS31Mv3-ah_DMkbG6aHV0_VDN9EoSUWOGSP0ijQa77sk9Cx48d13GcoDBoL93Mbh7VNatoq7eeGBescpi7LFlMdGZZa63WMAL9CFksAQSS6PgLqM-yRGh6Kcb3KRD1Dm2JtxSGOKO4TA/s1600/IMG_5909.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="854" data-original-width="1600" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS31Mv3-ah_DMkbG6aHV0_VDN9EoSUWOGSP0ijQa77sk9Cx48d13GcoDBoL93Mbh7VNatoq7eeGBescpi7LFlMdGZZa63WMAL9CFksAQSS6PgLqM-yRGh6Kcb3KRD1Dm2JtxSGOKO4TA/s320/IMG_5909.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew the thirteen pieces together along the length to make a piece that is approximately 26 1/2" x 55"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The bias cut edges end up on the outside of the quilt as you flip the pieces for the orientation shown. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
After stitching together, I stay stitched the edges, quilted and bound this little cutie!<br />

<br />
Next up I wanted to make a block that was 9 1/2" to fit into my (someday) Cotton + Steel quilt.<br />
<br />
I started with seven 1 1/2" x 21" pieces cut from some fat quarters I had laying around.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP_CaVbfqH3iVH8FMiCIwjckLttBmcJ-CaAEGcgg-l_CbmJZtG9Td-hxbndzUH9knDXrNEn8Z4C-PZwmfIpUm9KzRWmHm8JVV3Yr1YAgEi0-_hQj4QCGCmTkI6HeLXBYinWM9-rOwHsA/s1600/IMG_5925.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="569" data-original-width="1600" height="113" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhP_CaVbfqH3iVH8FMiCIwjckLttBmcJ-CaAEGcgg-l_CbmJZtG9Td-hxbndzUH9knDXrNEn8Z4C-PZwmfIpUm9KzRWmHm8JVV3Yr1YAgEi0-_hQj4QCGCmTkI6HeLXBYinWM9-rOwHsA/s320/IMG_5925.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS6BbZcE3fHKk8kAEZGSbpybfmwBFPECSu3LxNk1699u_law_5l9EEUSlPV6HrOLgMA1h6jqycVV7iXQ48EopbcUUm8AYeJpahQiPmVovTUQO559cosrisdayPF1twkh3b_A_Bs26W2A/s1600/IMG_5926.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="549" data-original-width="1600" height="109" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS6BbZcE3fHKk8kAEZGSbpybfmwBFPECSu3LxNk1699u_law_5l9EEUSlPV6HrOLgMA1h6jqycVV7iXQ48EopbcUUm8AYeJpahQiPmVovTUQO559cosrisdayPF1twkh3b_A_Bs26W2A/s320/IMG_5926.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1W3ptAtSRstO1RT2ufVC-QAsu3WeR0x0UlvXE-7mflofp0tp-BT-j5zZTfW8ITknZ3nzWvP81lBTXC_ZhxKIKgkodNT5THmThZzch1lWta3DuV0gvzv8819xPnSJEphltkYqgcg_8bA/s1600/IMG_5927.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="693" data-original-width="1600" height="138" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1W3ptAtSRstO1RT2ufVC-QAsu3WeR0x0UlvXE-7mflofp0tp-BT-j5zZTfW8ITknZ3nzWvP81lBTXC_ZhxKIKgkodNT5THmThZzch1lWta3DuV0gvzv8819xPnSJEphltkYqgcg_8bA/s320/IMG_5927.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The strips were sewn together to make a piece 7 1/2" x 21". Since this was a smaller piece than above, I used Mary Ellen's Best Press on the entire piece so that I didn't have to worry as much about the bias edges. This piece was cut into two squares and then once again the squares were cut on the diagonal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp2nCcx_YLV6BVQKA3zIsWHUrHQm9GhwL_Z8QGRV1_VmyWkTDLcWhW54vjC2tjF6H58sJDHUQOzRwcVHQlggk3ZTuFKzFcyw7nWNiNePy9_9ANeg4Of_F-A3n0-cKQH4Cj9ZAwWkKOWg/s1600/IMG_5928.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1530" data-original-width="1600" height="306" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp2nCcx_YLV6BVQKA3zIsWHUrHQm9GhwL_Z8QGRV1_VmyWkTDLcWhW54vjC2tjF6H58sJDHUQOzRwcVHQlggk3ZTuFKzFcyw7nWNiNePy9_9ANeg4Of_F-A3n0-cKQH4Cj9ZAwWkKOWg/s320/IMG_5928.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After they were sewn the block was just slightly larger than I wanted so I cut it down to 9 1/2".<br />
<br />
Have a great day!</div>

I feel so fortunate to be able to play with new fabric, before it hits the stores. My latest adventure is with the Hoffman Digital Deer panel.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_PlJRFTS5WILtOW5NDXvmZKlKj_qq0lYxvQqD13QC_aj8nWwumt8JnEsAj3y4FAxy7s93k79Khfj6Pf_XfM9wPAnE4WmcLMmv8mHhqUA0WqNcJj2a_zxcKGuYQ1BWmDWHEnXO0ZaYVQ/s1600/IMG_5875.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1348" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_PlJRFTS5WILtOW5NDXvmZKlKj_qq0lYxvQqD13QC_aj8nWwumt8JnEsAj3y4FAxy7s93k79Khfj6Pf_XfM9wPAnE4WmcLMmv8mHhqUA0WqNcJj2a_zxcKGuYQ1BWmDWHEnXO0ZaYVQ/s400/IMG_5875.jpg" width="336" /></a></div>
<br />
At a recent Guild meeting Paulette presented a demo on Delectable Mountains. I decide that the block would work well with this panel. A little bit of math was required to make it work the way I wanted, but in the end I was happy with the effect. The red border was a perfect match for the little cardinal in the lower right corner.<br />

I had an opportunity to play a little with the quilting on a hanging for a friend. I love all the textures on this! I'm hoping she will be as happy with it as I am.<br />

This block was originally used <a href="http://lindasquiltmania.blogspot.ca/2017/07/a-little-cotton-steel.html">here</a> for a Cotton + Steel quilt I had made. After making all the blocks I had an aha moment. More of that later, here is the block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghjil43KKBlMZTIYwpM6ZS_XpoGAJSN9mQlL_P2BODiHfcLeRot3efxyArn1-Ipft36dDI_lcgzSD0h8Z8PJ_yBJeY7woHGSrMDMCdJ0gQF6rDXaskDJMuScT-Bb-AWb3OqIlsz7Y_8g/s1600/IMG_5846.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghjil43KKBlMZTIYwpM6ZS_XpoGAJSN9mQlL_P2BODiHfcLeRot3efxyArn1-Ipft36dDI_lcgzSD0h8Z8PJ_yBJeY7woHGSrMDMCdJ0gQF6rDXaskDJMuScT-Bb-AWb3OqIlsz7Y_8g/s320/IMG_5846.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To make a 12" block you need two feature fabrics and a background fabric. From each of the feature fabrics cut two 4 3/4" blocks and one 5 7/16" block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPVwUERDfHPgBiSYW2LffjiI1W6PN7B3kwIAZNti3Zl2aYx6EhxO96fqH43c7z_KnAP3MU1Cvcjpv9kIzyoe9lCwbcob8IgCrpG-NRemKe70ILzuWPiOsO5yjaBYHf_T3OWAE96PTBwQ/s1600/IMG_5848.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPVwUERDfHPgBiSYW2LffjiI1W6PN7B3kwIAZNti3Zl2aYx6EhxO96fqH43c7z_KnAP3MU1Cvcjpv9kIzyoe9lCwbcob8IgCrpG-NRemKe70ILzuWPiOsO5yjaBYHf_T3OWAE96PTBwQ/s320/IMG_5848.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKcfCAB4C5RTWEfS0-tw7TWe5qE8dKIf-Ew7KxQJGtn7OWum9zlqWWXI2iXahyphenhyphentlJk05UN-zHYcinTGYVPo9r10CHdEk8O8wchmCjCkj25ekgI-OvLN58fvBQtAp1XpNRNyD9rJcBZqg/s1600/IMG_5849.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKcfCAB4C5RTWEfS0-tw7TWe5qE8dKIf-Ew7KxQJGtn7OWum9zlqWWXI2iXahyphenhyphentlJk05UN-zHYcinTGYVPo9r10CHdEk8O8wchmCjCkj25ekgI-OvLN58fvBQtAp1XpNRNyD9rJcBZqg/s320/IMG_5849.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Cut the 5 7/16" blocks twice on the diagonal. Sew two pieces of each colour together to make a quarter square unit that should be 4 3/4"<br />
<br />
From the background fabric cut a 7 3/16" square and two 3 7/8" square. Cut the larger square twice on the diagonal and the smaller squares once on the diagonal. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZfK8IVL_-vwu5iicPBZhlNcEArzMvgsHZCyNhma_0grUAuOiNsZRzTXyVZEV5YHm4npt75dcAt_gGsm1YRmn0RWB8YqA6zDmGfzKiMVry2NlOMrHQsTV__nWqfH5omF43pPi0UYj_lA/s1600/IMG_5847.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZfK8IVL_-vwu5iicPBZhlNcEArzMvgsHZCyNhma_0grUAuOiNsZRzTXyVZEV5YHm4npt75dcAt_gGsm1YRmn0RWB8YqA6zDmGfzKiMVry2NlOMrHQsTV__nWqfH5omF43pPi0UYj_lA/s320/IMG_5847.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lay out as shown and sew together. The first time I made a quilt from this block I sewed separate blocks, laid them out and sewed together. That is when I realized that there was a much easier way to make this design into a quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yLcXQDIyM1tnJsQ4S8UpknScYJ2-w11zDW7_0knNXu12mZxPyz4PpQF5fnTKf_xjAgGV47M-Ex-8M5VfVhfw5mc_2-Cx4a_6BPAG6HQj5ONVZJLzLDItGcTd8Rt9FYE8X4h1MIlxtw/s1600/IMG_5359.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yLcXQDIyM1tnJsQ4S8UpknScYJ2-w11zDW7_0knNXu12mZxPyz4PpQF5fnTKf_xjAgGV47M-Ex-8M5VfVhfw5mc_2-Cx4a_6BPAG6HQj5ONVZJLzLDItGcTd8Rt9FYE8X4h1MIlxtw/s320/IMG_5359.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I laid all the feature fabrics out, then cut 4 3/4" background pieces and placed them as shown. I eliminated a lot of seams in the background for a much easier quilt to put together. I still needed to cut the edge insets the same as the block above. The block calls for 7 3/8" squares, but I cut mine at 7 1/2" so I would have a little wiggle room and could trim the edges after. The corner insets were cut from 4 1/4" blocks for the same reason. I sewed the diagonal rows together first, and then sewed all the rows together to finish the quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1dRvzRqBVhJ4WdbkwV8TPYqEmA8YsosP7SApeJitDfHCH_s6WP7RIV9M_YrVASljYMAk4crAV5fmtgIMlQcEHJVG6u672a_pIrlqX_pz_jTZYEB8kKry8K-D_lMuIIPpD1COjs2t8QA/s1600/IMG_5853.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1dRvzRqBVhJ4WdbkwV8TPYqEmA8YsosP7SApeJitDfHCH_s6WP7RIV9M_YrVASljYMAk4crAV5fmtgIMlQcEHJVG6u672a_pIrlqX_pz_jTZYEB8kKry8K-D_lMuIIPpD1COjs2t8QA/s320/IMG_5853.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I ended up with a 36" quilt, perfect for a baby quit or table topper.<br />
<br />
You can use any size for your feature fabric and background pieces, adjusting the edge insets to match.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrm6XV8i327N6ILPj1KVdxztjvpXqVdQc-an0X5p-j7XoiWgQNvzKrOcvSYMB2IEIc2juFzS9WkAyX6N2wqJt7cAT7obpztfDf8kA2SblOF7r3PGPi62fQBtxusTjwzbDg0-9Ssg_FQ/s1600/IMG_5852.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="745" data-original-width="1600" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrm6XV8i327N6ILPj1KVdxztjvpXqVdQc-an0X5p-j7XoiWgQNvzKrOcvSYMB2IEIc2juFzS9WkAyX6N2wqJt7cAT7obpztfDf8kA2SblOF7r3PGPi62fQBtxusTjwzbDg0-9Ssg_FQ/s400/IMG_5852.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
That is what I did for this Cotton + Steel piece which will end up in my quilt at some point. I based it on a 3 1/2" cut size for the feature and background fabrics. I purposely cut the insets quite a bit larger so that I could trim them down to a size that will work in my quilt.</div>

This is the back of the bag, showing the lovely Cotton + Steel Hedgehog fabric I decided to use. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvBCRvVNAfUBJdLIO1EHSXNkI7PyBJ9uZTMv30lnDoy41d-obg3cnqJXMtV_1ngEgEO-VLZ_P7MMUn-JD4fOteaQWyIn8bxFhQ2xUx6YsLH_XHDlUIlAKYdEMuL1CzSMQQDlE0nGIFXA/s1600/IMG_5835.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvBCRvVNAfUBJdLIO1EHSXNkI7PyBJ9uZTMv30lnDoy41d-obg3cnqJXMtV_1ngEgEO-VLZ_P7MMUn-JD4fOteaQWyIn8bxFhQ2xUx6YsLH_XHDlUIlAKYdEMuL1CzSMQQDlE0nGIFXA/s320/IMG_5835.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The front view shows the Vinyl I used. It was my first time sewing with vinyl, so there was a bit of a learning curve. My machine did struggle a little with sewing the multiple layers on the flap portion. I think in the future I will stick with cork of fabric for my bags.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHGJfJ08-ya07B41U__waaSzQB0T3GV4OFrhOLxhEIi151y7S-gjNnHlIr6-QEQBvrgR1w6Yym1eRuVrB4glQWhhp6JBkXMuD_yYhG0nHXEg9WMcM3jgPWeqgBxW5qAmTz2FPMJMNLag/s1600/IMG_5839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHGJfJ08-ya07B41U__waaSzQB0T3GV4OFrhOLxhEIi151y7S-gjNnHlIr6-QEQBvrgR1w6Yym1eRuVrB4glQWhhp6JBkXMuD_yYhG0nHXEg9WMcM3jgPWeqgBxW5qAmTz2FPMJMNLag/s320/IMG_5839.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I really do love this hedgehog fabric! There was an option to put decorative work on the vinyl overlay, but I felt I had had enough fun working with the vinyl already. I used batik fabric for the lining and it was a dream to work with. Chris has a couple of great ideas in her pattern for the bag. At the back there is a hidden pocket on the outside for your phone. The inside includes a zipped pocket that is used to turn the entire bag right side out. This makes for a much neater finish on the top edge of the bag. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.bagomc.com/">The Bag of the Month Club</a> is an adventure I'm sure I will enjoy!<br />

The years seem to coming and going much faster than they used to. Happy New Year to all of you!<br />
<br />
I took a bit of a break from quilting over the holidays. I decided it was time to make myself a new bag instead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_6mmIytfs4j87oUDRonNVwBLmPOJ5nPILTmbmW0aUCPCKB7bVo1pgEsU8WArYwCN71fjM9l1M96t_TD8NXOuYxj2lIjsNudNvVHud97z1pi6xGa7WbclWs819QF1QRzg0oDo0w1E6UA/s1600/IMG_5812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_6mmIytfs4j87oUDRonNVwBLmPOJ5nPILTmbmW0aUCPCKB7bVo1pgEsU8WArYwCN71fjM9l1M96t_TD8NXOuYxj2lIjsNudNvVHud97z1pi6xGa7WbclWs819QF1QRzg0oDo0w1E6UA/s320/IMG_5812.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>

This is my Hariet Expandable Tote from Swoon Sewing patterns. <a href="http://katja/">Katja</a> had just ordered in the pattern and it had to come home with me.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOUTDTshae3Gwo28AXAs6G87JmPwBni_JwEpZMK5pZQT0Hj-eiYKQlHA5pJoEiVYqqdVnk-2lE8FGWGkgR9lsluVGMwin7L1Ihh7B8JEsgbPjePNYBQ27kilzUoP5zb_3F8qVqGNtw-Q/s1600/IMG_5811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOUTDTshae3Gwo28AXAs6G87JmPwBni_JwEpZMK5pZQT0Hj-eiYKQlHA5pJoEiVYqqdVnk-2lE8FGWGkgR9lsluVGMwin7L1Ihh7B8JEsgbPjePNYBQ27kilzUoP5zb_3F8qVqGNtw-Q/s320/IMG_5811.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric on the outside is a Linen and the expandable part is cotton, both from Cotton + Steel. The cork is from <a href="https://mmcorksupply.com/">mm cork</a> in Trail and the hardware is of course from <a href="https://emmalinebags.com/">Emmaline</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvyRVtJGSEX-A-ALZZS1FgSU4b3nBOXNrHdcCIRZCJ6XIcpwxUflA3560zyLqTtzZV926vijFcNslOSbDRAPJAEr-_lyKxnqWNtx68YAPx-AALuJtGgccIEWd6iu9ImP4ifToXF4Tuyg/s1600/IMG_5810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvyRVtJGSEX-A-ALZZS1FgSU4b3nBOXNrHdcCIRZCJ6XIcpwxUflA3560zyLqTtzZV926vijFcNslOSbDRAPJAEr-_lyKxnqWNtx68YAPx-AALuJtGgccIEWd6iu9ImP4ifToXF4Tuyg/s320/IMG_5810.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The only thing I might do next time, is make the straps a little longer. And yes, buy a little more ready made strapping as it wasn't that easy to make more when I realized I didn't quite have enough. While glueing the strapping in place with Beacon Fabric-Tac, I managed to get a little extra on the bag fabric. I dug out the nail polish remover and tested it on a scrap, and then used it to remove the excess glue. It worked well for me, but always try it on a test piece of fabric first.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9mNoXjU6EYUHqeHJpTYR2i04LMMOWyLllLoJWkaym_uMsPhCgbvE9parRKJPBmtE6Ij-_umjWYAEjsEzBKHPGNi9Ee1jiDuLwcZsuXtM1yDCSA40vFzbd4wV0566YzD9mwQbq4PRqWw/s1600/IMG_5817.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1584" data-original-width="1600" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9mNoXjU6EYUHqeHJpTYR2i04LMMOWyLllLoJWkaym_uMsPhCgbvE9parRKJPBmtE6Ij-_umjWYAEjsEzBKHPGNi9Ee1jiDuLwcZsuXtM1yDCSA40vFzbd4wV0566YzD9mwQbq4PRqWw/s320/IMG_5817.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now this is a real blast from the past. I appliquéd the blocks many years ago. I found a piece of year 2000 fabric in the pieced parts, so I know I pieced it together around then. A friend saw it in my unfinished basket earlier in the year and said how much she liked it. Well, I finished it up and gave it to her over Christmas as a hostess gift. It isn't some of my finest work, but it is cute.<br />

<a href="http://thatlookslikeitneedsstitches.blogspot.ca/p/minecraft-sew-along.html">Kelli</a> started a Minecraft quilt along back in January of 2016. I made a few blocks and then the project got put away in favour of more urgent ideas. Well, I pulled it back out when a friend asked if I knew how to make a Minecraft quilt for another friend that had twin boys. Here was the perfect opportunity to pull the blocks out of the pile and get them finished.<br />

<br />
Just in case you can't read the Minecraft font that Kelli used in her pattern, the quilts are for Nathan and Ryan. A third quit is just coming off the Longarm and will be finished in time for a special Grandson a little closer to home. How is your Christmas sewing coming? <br />
<br />
Have a great day!<br />

For quite some time I've wanted to play with cork fabric. I picked the Rozy Wallet pattern and got to it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkwLQA3tXulHDbAYQIBi9BDi8kCXLI9BdfTXpUceKNGKbGq6tW3amrX7vIwYXwyVEFnWpM3maWBFGVV97SjwnzYvvSfuSp83bFXd9b43cg01CRoAe52mr-L30dLOq-mBU1DiZ_d0Tlw/s1600/IMG_5786.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkwLQA3tXulHDbAYQIBi9BDi8kCXLI9BdfTXpUceKNGKbGq6tW3amrX7vIwYXwyVEFnWpM3maWBFGVV97SjwnzYvvSfuSp83bFXd9b43cg01CRoAe52mr-L30dLOq-mBU1DiZ_d0Tlw/s320/IMG_5786.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm in love with this little wallet. The cork is from <a href="https://mmcorksupply.com/">mm cork supply in Trail, B.C.</a> The hardware is from <a href="https://emmalinebags.com/">Emmaline in Alberta</a> and the pattern is from <a href="https://www.serialbagmakers.com/">Serial Bagmakers</a>. If you go to the Serial Bagmakers you will find all kinds of resources for sourcing bag making supplies. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUZ0UOtgIq68eZFGL1pM55eSU_yoUJT-pF2CUSa5epImOTpjzAKrbQwdbe6MscVyN2JkO_9QlSO8a8vARn62WQrgZSw-Rxx5yE8LC69HFpYdXSUW5NF-PHYUxRVct9l2-_zU5OW08MwA/s1600/IMG_5785.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1375" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUZ0UOtgIq68eZFGL1pM55eSU_yoUJT-pF2CUSa5epImOTpjzAKrbQwdbe6MscVyN2JkO_9QlSO8a8vARn62WQrgZSw-Rxx5yE8LC69HFpYdXSUW5NF-PHYUxRVct9l2-_zU5OW08MwA/s320/IMG_5785.jpg" width="275" /></a></div>
<br />
I used a little Zen Chic "Ink" for the middle of the wallet. There are a few little tweaks I'll make on the next wallet but overall I'm happy! Luckily Emmaline always adds a couple of extra screws to her hardware package. I did manage to strip one of the teeny tiny little screws, but had an extra to replace it with.<br />

On the hunt for quick and easy patterns to make samples from Market, I came across an old pattern that I designed back in 2005 for Katja's Quilt Shoppe. It was called Hugs All Around and it was originally done with ten inch Novelty Squares. This was long before Layer Cakes were even thought of. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXfqnRG26ZwlS0G1jkd32ZOTJX97ezLb-VEjJ9i9fBU7Jh9-BuqwXau6hBKHhBr5sOPWEXwlg91nNkDp48vkCvELZjkEgXMakPWDjUMuDeFGo_NKfK3A_t_6vKO52YSrPELJ8gg_GXIQ/s1600/IMG_5756.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1346" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXfqnRG26ZwlS0G1jkd32ZOTJX97ezLb-VEjJ9i9fBU7Jh9-BuqwXau6hBKHhBr5sOPWEXwlg91nNkDp48vkCvELZjkEgXMakPWDjUMuDeFGo_NKfK3A_t_6vKO52YSrPELJ8gg_GXIQ/s320/IMG_5756.jpg" width="269" /></a></div>
<br />
I used Kansas Troubles Quilters new line Fresh Cut Flowers to make this quilt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb6YCt07MFHEaxULUTBFPRnpyIQGEuU3fJm8HIGEnGORQ7oqGCI89RKHrpY8GKgkopUv9F_HqsuQKrbddDzjlH0JfCb6mqKv3Gb_zqYaZ5CuZnRYuDk1ZG4Rtgo9DxWC289qOKq4w9-A/s1600/IMG_5739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb6YCt07MFHEaxULUTBFPRnpyIQGEuU3fJm8HIGEnGORQ7oqGCI89RKHrpY8GKgkopUv9F_HqsuQKrbddDzjlH0JfCb6mqKv3Gb_zqYaZ5CuZnRYuDk1ZG4Rtgo9DxWC289qOKq4w9-A/s320/IMG_5739.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Start with a 10 inch square and cut it on the diagonal twice. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV_H45cS7EAogU1TEwqYSTEnY53F0d0TCnXxvJKgCY4g5Hmx1GG-mpARTDaPg3Hs3Zfr9RHCsmMqhOHnQLnC-cvoozPpy9z-A0iyuD56O1ipahTh4t_TLPbZhVKZ-1-hLjMD8ifsLO6g/s1600/IMG_5740.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV_H45cS7EAogU1TEwqYSTEnY53F0d0TCnXxvJKgCY4g5Hmx1GG-mpARTDaPg3Hs3Zfr9RHCsmMqhOHnQLnC-cvoozPpy9z-A0iyuD56O1ipahTh4t_TLPbZhVKZ-1-hLjMD8ifsLO6g/s320/IMG_5740.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Cut a 2 inch strip of a contrasting fabric and sew each set of four triangles to the strip, allowing 2 1/2" between triangles. Make sure the triangles are all aligned the same.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT6a93qQKJiEiyB-h4e2FkSpmsjWCvVnJGWOPs2H0OJrbh0b30wvJmwU69-kXnuaK88TK7A7_b9fGfgyFL6868XDm_yeokWF-3ZTolvn17S5pcQCazchVYU3sGUGYCCg5Ky14ynh03Vg/s1600/IMG_5741.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT6a93qQKJiEiyB-h4e2FkSpmsjWCvVnJGWOPs2H0OJrbh0b30wvJmwU69-kXnuaK88TK7A7_b9fGfgyFL6868XDm_yeokWF-3ZTolvn17S5pcQCazchVYU3sGUGYCCg5Ky14ynh03Vg/s320/IMG_5741.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Cut the strip even with the straight edge of the triangle. Notice the 2 1/2" piece between triangle is left in place.<br />
<br />

I was able to get an eleven inch square from my block. I placed the 5 1/2" mark on my square on the middle of the block and then cut the eleven inch square.<br />

<br />
For the women from Rivervally Guild I did say I would have the blocks finished sizes all divisible by 3. To make a 9 1/2" unfinished square, start with either a 9 or 9 1/2" square of fabric. I used some of the new Cotton + Steel from Melody's Flutter Collection. Cut the sashing 1 1/2" wide for a more delicate look. Square your block up to 9 1/2" when done. I used a directional print so I had to be careful when putting the block back together to make sure everything was right side up.<br />
<br />
Have a great day!<br />

Annie Brady is the designer of both the fabric and pattern. It is now available at your local quilt shop. I was a little dyslexic when I was reading the pattern, so a little block placement adjustment had to be made. When everything was finally in the right place, I was pleased with the result. The quilting is simple organic wavy lines.<br />

Last weekend I was at retreat. I managed to get the binding on this quilt. Sagebrush Quilters' Guild was quilting along with the mystery quilt from <a href="https://www.loveshackquilts.ca/peace-love-quilt">Love Shack Quilts.</a> I dug into my overflowing box of 2 1/2" squares and managed to finish the quilt.<br />
<br />
Quilt Market in Houston is only a week away! I'm so excited to be going!!!!!! The Vendor booths are always fun, and then there is the quilt show. It is the same show as during Festival, just without all the people. Look out Houston, here I come. <br />

Today's block is an X block. This block finishes at 9 inches (9 1/2" including seam allowances.)<br />
<br />
To make one block you will need four 3 1/2" squares for the corners, four 3 1/2" squares for the centre outer edge blocks and from the X fabric you require one 3 1/2" square and twelve 2" squares.<br />

<br />
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on all twelve 2" squares. I prefer using my chalk-o-liner to mark lines. Place a 2" square on the corner of your outer 3 1/2" squares as shown and sew on the line. Fold on the line and press to outer corner. Cut off the bottom two layers and press the seam allowance towards the larger square fabric.<br />

<br />
Lay out all the units as show and sew together .<br />
<br />
Now, for the rest of the story.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicJXh7P3r4AoFGO64GkrTHwHHHZ9vlsOfHJ8t7Bw7PQcrMlVEboDAl4epssc3BA7Jf_985U25MDI94UTM8hmG5IvB2aJNSE2SOZn08KWYwpSGbDxqnrSjdKhm_5MOzTQBcWbw_dAOrKA/s1600/IMG_5595.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1593" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicJXh7P3r4AoFGO64GkrTHwHHHZ9vlsOfHJ8t7Bw7PQcrMlVEboDAl4epssc3BA7Jf_985U25MDI94UTM8hmG5IvB2aJNSE2SOZn08KWYwpSGbDxqnrSjdKhm_5MOzTQBcWbw_dAOrKA/s320/IMG_5595.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<br />
I wanted to make a 36" square baby quilt. Rather than make sixteen blocks and sew together, I decided to eliminate a few seams so that it was quicker to make.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMAoe9z3hEmwnOucJfwrZDfnt2x8noESJ7aJNUs0fqybhDPBqIiCpUtoDAhnbpykpIbQSm9TlfhjsaVSUbSvUmpO4zIqJ3lD5d5idpeZbWWY6qcyFqEIz_kTRBvRPlkJ-9E1gyE_YJBA/s1600/IMG_5128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMAoe9z3hEmwnOucJfwrZDfnt2x8noESJ7aJNUs0fqybhDPBqIiCpUtoDAhnbpykpIbQSm9TlfhjsaVSUbSvUmpO4zIqJ3lD5d5idpeZbWWY6qcyFqEIz_kTRBvRPlkJ-9E1gyE_YJBA/s320/IMG_5128.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I replaced the four corner units of blocks with a 6 1/2" square of feature fabric, and applied a 2" accent square unit to each corner the same was as in the block. Nine units are required.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZEyBDecjbMVtVwFf4KSNM3siEo0Tybs5cUHvZDPRCxeW7-D08RbJL0B4iktwbz1rozs-P157AYcYxuSkwxGJ6vNQIBaIQBzO1XXnIF20gPBkEOHfE8MtEgYEw7QIEx-ZxV8noOMDmg/s1600/IMG_5127.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxZEyBDecjbMVtVwFf4KSNM3siEo0Tybs5cUHvZDPRCxeW7-D08RbJL0B4iktwbz1rozs-P157AYcYxuSkwxGJ6vNQIBaIQBzO1XXnIF20gPBkEOHfE8MtEgYEw7QIEx-ZxV8noOMDmg/s320/IMG_5127.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
For the corners of the quilt I made four feature fabric units with a 3 1/2" square and one 2" square of accent fabric.<br />

<br />
The edge pieces of the quilt were made from 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" units of feature fabric with two 2" squares of accent fabric. Twelve units are required.<br />
<br />

<br />
This is my sashing unit, twenty-four required. It is made from a 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" background fabric and four 2" squares of accent fabric,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHkafNHG7eba92-MT6EdV2qlPtXfPsaI1HDhMoiuCpnwrF0iw48yZ9YHy-dbZeX_3J1qrjLViI6rPii5DFwvA-nNZLlB4t5JQmgMfQ5j6oTk215FY1LQ0OOuaTuwGvsfBR7eGEz5YLgg/s1600/IMG_5126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHkafNHG7eba92-MT6EdV2qlPtXfPsaI1HDhMoiuCpnwrF0iw48yZ9YHy-dbZeX_3J1qrjLViI6rPii5DFwvA-nNZLlB4t5JQmgMfQ5j6oTk215FY1LQ0OOuaTuwGvsfBR7eGEz5YLgg/s320/IMG_5126.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To complete the top I made sixteen units from a 3 1/2" background square and two 2" squares of accent fabric. Use the picture to lay out your pieces, sew together and enjoy.<br />

This quilt was developed for the recent Alaska Quilt Cruise that I participated in, sponsored by Cherry Tree Quilt Shop in Summerland.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0nwG5QfP2UBZ5hIfSXQvIfuKYbOhidU9PVPV8_sgLcG3Swg-YV2RyIvQ5Vj5-lXM40y1wR4ATS5s_CT9EERbdiPDlw6x9tMeHZsVxq1ivKF_MguYbtbKJJKKuNH67b90DVyTKwlV6bA/s1600/IMG_5337.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1582" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0nwG5QfP2UBZ5hIfSXQvIfuKYbOhidU9PVPV8_sgLcG3Swg-YV2RyIvQ5Vj5-lXM40y1wR4ATS5s_CT9EERbdiPDlw6x9tMeHZsVxq1ivKF_MguYbtbKJJKKuNH67b90DVyTKwlV6bA/s320/IMG_5337.jpg" width="316" /></a></div>
<br />
The block is a great way to show off a fussy cut fabric. All the kits for the cruise were Cotton + Steel fabric. What fun!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3gLk0fs1NinL7tot5xxC_CI6wmYRqXkMPkWrior8bSFmE4nsxoIoL6tQDHCBmXMfNPR5Jd0USOgsCcbUKMeoquqafqn4wzEVlkla5iTCv2WqU2VkvboTdvQY5pUlfpWWTBmyAs1E2ng/s1600/IMG_5425.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1590" data-original-width="1600" height="318" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3gLk0fs1NinL7tot5xxC_CI6wmYRqXkMPkWrior8bSFmE4nsxoIoL6tQDHCBmXMfNPR5Jd0USOgsCcbUKMeoquqafqn4wzEVlkla5iTCv2WqU2VkvboTdvQY5pUlfpWWTBmyAs1E2ng/s320/IMG_5425.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a close up of the block made from a little halloween fabric. For each block you require a feature fabric, a background fabric and two accent fabrics. #1 accent for the Star points and #2 accent for the frame. I use the Easy Angle and Companion Angle rulers. I will give Substitutions at the end of the instructions.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiThpkNODhJtCfSRdAdQX1wvmTQq4YlWBi0x8B1Ty4gXoT1dalZiDCtL3ENSrlch7S3iIOGPgv9_jHilAKEX7_tJso7SRoaZ2oehCC9jTQNa7iKijji4s_O-EeVVYEpSu0PwhhmyEH3ZQ/s1600/IMG_5413.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1540" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiThpkNODhJtCfSRdAdQX1wvmTQq4YlWBi0x8B1Ty4gXoT1dalZiDCtL3ENSrlch7S3iIOGPgv9_jHilAKEX7_tJso7SRoaZ2oehCC9jTQNa7iKijji4s_O-EeVVYEpSu0PwhhmyEH3ZQ/s320/IMG_5413.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<br />
The first step is to fussy cut the feature fabric. You will need one 4 1/2" square and four 2 1/2" squares.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiudd8ZvgvkVFWeZPFAJP8Sn2wsgR6hY7IU9oRveASWctBfO_xNjbMvvLyZHQ5sh2RvnK1853wyKEgxiRualel9v_pmzPE3N-jocfzS6BJMhCvltiBRmxHLakYNmv3NL7pylQbvngXHkg/s1600/IMG_5414.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1558" data-original-width="1600" height="311" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiudd8ZvgvkVFWeZPFAJP8Sn2wsgR6hY7IU9oRveASWctBfO_xNjbMvvLyZHQ5sh2RvnK1853wyKEgxiRualel9v_pmzPE3N-jocfzS6BJMhCvltiBRmxHLakYNmv3NL7pylQbvngXHkg/s320/IMG_5414.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The block has eight 2 1/2" half square units. My favourite way to make these is to lay a 2 1/2" strip of background right sides together on top of a 2 1/2" accent 1 fabric. Cut with the Easy Angle ruler as shown, then sewn the two cut pieces together to make the half square unit. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSwJJVqGoms">Here</a> is a video tutorial on using the ruler. After cutting the units, cut four 2 1/2" squares from the background fabric.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsDpmC6C3wRYyji8F_Na94npqfKO8CXc9Y2826ymWVs8georwxxC3CCbKquzF5PHS0VjgpS7O9QX5oygnhW3WpUMcOB1wVnb_hZsfe9uCSQDqYh617y6LzagVQiI0Oo-3Nta_XaQ7S5A/s1600/IMG_5415.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1538" data-original-width="1600" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsDpmC6C3wRYyji8F_Na94npqfKO8CXc9Y2826ymWVs8georwxxC3CCbKquzF5PHS0VjgpS7O9QX5oygnhW3WpUMcOB1wVnb_hZsfe9uCSQDqYh617y6LzagVQiI0Oo-3Nta_XaQ7S5A/s320/IMG_5415.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To make the corners for the block, sew the half squares, fussy cut 2 1/2" pieces and the background squares together to make the units shown. Note that they are all pieced a little different, so that the fussy cut fabric will be right side up within the block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8hdpayeZrknWQmqPh0sAVJryPM4KY8bafZ5F9j8mtB6yxWB2D-ivtv4YAFvLDh-s0abedg9hpLgx2xRbPLoLVreEc4V5QnyXd5mPd2gXwjow3zi-fluZ6gWN5-T3-maohh9yUjYMwwA/s1600/IMG_5437.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1072" data-original-width="1600" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8hdpayeZrknWQmqPh0sAVJryPM4KY8bafZ5F9j8mtB6yxWB2D-ivtv4YAFvLDh-s0abedg9hpLgx2xRbPLoLVreEc4V5QnyXd5mPd2gXwjow3zi-fluZ6gWN5-T3-maohh9yUjYMwwA/s320/IMG_5437.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The next units needed is cut from a 1 1/2" strip of accent 2 fabric. Use the Companion angle ruler to cut eight of these. From the background fabric cut four 1 7/8" squares.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipCKALopTguCqFTU60CQrXp3K6WfleeD2Wcs5ud0M2MgggTwE8BdkFRtFWexGsA5RYMkue3SBDG8-AQgvyIJnV2I_ZSY4IWVTaGHZjIV8YoaAtHN15Pf3RZA5RNv3gxjBGtdzZLl8FAw/s1600/IMG_5416.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1386" data-original-width="1600" height="277" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipCKALopTguCqFTU60CQrXp3K6WfleeD2Wcs5ud0M2MgggTwE8BdkFRtFWexGsA5RYMkue3SBDG8-AQgvyIJnV2I_ZSY4IWVTaGHZjIV8YoaAtHN15Pf3RZA5RNv3gxjBGtdzZLl8FAw/s320/IMG_5416.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sew the units cut as shown.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqmL4IjGiiZ-Gc7Dc_5hal3yyw2qq6evz12kxo_ugJ9kXB5dUyHDQkhSta1fOXCbJ9GQ_iodwVyFNIm3E_4lyG39XRmUfMs3haxbW2CFiFH3eJfzbh2l_JhDlBKcECbL1lb2Elmx8FDA/s1600/IMG_5418.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1503" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqmL4IjGiiZ-Gc7Dc_5hal3yyw2qq6evz12kxo_ugJ9kXB5dUyHDQkhSta1fOXCbJ9GQ_iodwVyFNIm3E_4lyG39XRmUfMs3haxbW2CFiFH3eJfzbh2l_JhDlBKcECbL1lb2Elmx8FDA/s320/IMG_5418.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
From accent 1, cut eight 2 1/2" Easy Angle units. I like to lay the fabric wrong sides together to cut, so that I get mirror image units. Sew together as shown.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYULRl71LsNBuZ22EuAjr-DEYJNvyao0DZasr8MP8MRBiLi4qgXctNVFkuk1jAtE8-5j89GykIMXU42ryjyJAgtNMtIKbUSI-fp1BVFvGees4Odz87jQhjmYlWweGSpkCiEPxDbsgobQ/s1600/IMG_5417.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1582" data-original-width="1600" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYULRl71LsNBuZ22EuAjr-DEYJNvyao0DZasr8MP8MRBiLi4qgXctNVFkuk1jAtE8-5j89GykIMXU42ryjyJAgtNMtIKbUSI-fp1BVFvGees4Odz87jQhjmYlWweGSpkCiEPxDbsgobQ/s320/IMG_5417.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The block requires four flying geese units that are 2 1/2" x 4 1/2". Using the Companion Angle Ruler cut four 2 1/2" units from accent 2. Using the Easy Angle Ruler cut Eight Background 2 1/2" units in the same manner as the previous step. Piece together. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6f6XIpd0Uk">Click here</a> for Bonnie Hunter's tutorial on making flying geese.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgRmNDfQNlu2fB1TR2NA-AjA7gPKFbSLvlqR89diXEgoFjtNNkKy7-BmMAAkSylqEv4YUGNvfK46bu3Ndjl2I7MbQ4411wjRSgdsGwpsf6wIC0Wo5GNf7dckXStsPwIQqSMnEQHthpXg/s1600/IMG_5419.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="898" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgRmNDfQNlu2fB1TR2NA-AjA7gPKFbSLvlqR89diXEgoFjtNNkKy7-BmMAAkSylqEv4YUGNvfK46bu3Ndjl2I7MbQ4411wjRSgdsGwpsf6wIC0Wo5GNf7dckXStsPwIQqSMnEQHthpXg/s320/IMG_5419.jpg" width="179" /></a></div>
<br />
The two units above are sewn together to make your last pieces of the block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidUtOFZQ1H761I8HXhgQa7SIQexUzUt2JIqcWKQWwk4akFiQv0oYF4n3DPkUZODvEzxDKVCpGmHc2pkEvjXCCKsUflWXmZX7K7fGukAem5fd-R6HyGbBuwepvQjC4HbQ7lgZKxBk2JIA/s1600/IMG_5424.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1575" data-original-width="1600" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidUtOFZQ1H761I8HXhgQa7SIQexUzUt2JIqcWKQWwk4akFiQv0oYF4n3DPkUZODvEzxDKVCpGmHc2pkEvjXCCKsUflWXmZX7K7fGukAem5fd-R6HyGbBuwepvQjC4HbQ7lgZKxBk2JIA/s320/IMG_5424.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lay the pieces out as shown and sew together to make your completed block.<br />
<br />
Substitutions: 2 1/2" Easy Angle - 2 7/8" square cut in half diagonally<br />
1 1/2" Companion Angle -3 1/4" square cut twice on the diagonal<br />
2 1/2" Companion Angle - 5 1/2" square cut twice on the diagonal<br />
<br />
I made eight blocks and then set them together as shown below<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd_SZx5GsClhV6cnMsZYrCoHTlZrWQ3sfDBnSaw3ipd2RmhG8jCDSr09crLK3sePLSHNwzO34ECk3IBo2aNRHx30WKHGCg8ujtB-E1Mv6UmDByT9HJjwk-sDY6LUbC_LA5VAfhswkpFw/s1600/Screen+Shot+2017-09-29+at+10.29.03+AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="481" data-original-width="506" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhd_SZx5GsClhV6cnMsZYrCoHTlZrWQ3sfDBnSaw3ipd2RmhG8jCDSr09crLK3sePLSHNwzO34ECk3IBo2aNRHx30WKHGCg8ujtB-E1Mv6UmDByT9HJjwk-sDY6LUbC_LA5VAfhswkpFw/s400/Screen+Shot+2017-09-29+at+10.29.03+AM.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The units that are not marked on one side of each block are 2 1/2" x 14 1/2" These measurements assume the blocks are 12 1/2". The outer border is cut 4 1/2" wide and yes, there is a bottom border. I must of cut it off for the picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid32Lfk2SORsEaL5p9ulm49HSLncQeH3PQl_aiyMJSUcQ_PaFgFf6NpAisDKnmvLUAVqvR-5y0pom6b_Sa0uZ-zQW16VGJF7JV7n5pC-cJwQViDAVL01nWPxD1bXhlof74XSx2jtxM1Q/s1600/IMG_5538.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1590" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid32Lfk2SORsEaL5p9ulm49HSLncQeH3PQl_aiyMJSUcQ_PaFgFf6NpAisDKnmvLUAVqvR-5y0pom6b_Sa0uZ-zQW16VGJF7JV7n5pC-cJwQViDAVL01nWPxD1bXhlof74XSx2jtxM1Q/s320/IMG_5538.jpg" width="318" /></a></div>
<br />
To make a baby quilt out of the block, I upsized the block to finish 36". The fussy cut pieces are 12 1/2" and 6 1/2". The half squares are 6 1/2", the flying goose unit is 6 1/2" x 12 1/2". The small background square is cut 4 3/4" and the companion angle units attached to the squares are cut from a 3 1/2" strip. A great class demo size block that also makes an adorable baby quilt.<br />

No, not the state, the fabric! Lol! Whenever I want fabric that works for a man, I turn to Kansas Troubles Fabric. The latest line is called Harvest Mill.<br />

I love this simple pattern, mainly because it is so quick to stitch up. The country feel of the fabric is perfect for that man in your life. I'm sure he won't mind the odd little flower here and there.<br />

From country to modern, here we go. This line is Farmer's Daughter by Lella Boutique. The pattern is one of my favourites from the book Beyond Neutral by John Q Adams. Another quick and easy pattern. <br />
<br />
I am currently on a Quilting Cruise to Alaska. This trip is hosted by Cherry Tree Quilt Store in Summerland. Pictures to follow when I make it home to my computer. Have a great day!<br />

It is hard to believe that we are into September already! Even though this summer was one of the hottest on record, it wasn't the most enjoyable. Fires, smoke and all the evacuation orders dominated most of our thoughts for the last two months. Not that we are done with all that yet. I hate to say it but please let it rain soon.<br />
<br />

<br />
First up today is a quilt that I made just after Spring Market. The fabric is Fig Tree's Hazel & Plum. It will be released in stores this fall. Most Fig Tree quilts are made with a cream background. I wanted something a little different so I went with a grey Grunge. I like it so much that even though I made this quilt for Trend-Tex, I'm about to make another one just like it for myself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1DhbDSOv2yBezhVDlIXBSOJ3FBZsmruaXB4sef6pN_SSY8hArgC8uwgjf7-DS2V6_94-TWG5fRzHyssMonMb7tVv9D6mfAhj_D1QsQ4AeYERoh6vLNc1sVb51F0XkJRVZJoKYHZYITg/s1600/IMG_5242.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1554" data-original-width="1600" height="310" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1DhbDSOv2yBezhVDlIXBSOJ3FBZsmruaXB4sef6pN_SSY8hArgC8uwgjf7-DS2V6_94-TWG5fRzHyssMonMb7tVv9D6mfAhj_D1QsQ4AeYERoh6vLNc1sVb51F0XkJRVZJoKYHZYITg/s320/IMG_5242.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Have you seen the "Dream Big" panels by Hoffman. They really have perfected the digital panels. Every time I'm asked to make something from their panels, I get very excited. I'm just finishing up their latest Call of the Wild panels but you will have to wait a bit to see them.<br />
<br />
If you are in the Kamloops area this month you must check out the FAN (Fibre Art Network) display at the Old Courthouse Cultural Centre at 7 Seymour St. W. It is open Tuesday through Friday 10am - 5pm and Saturday from 10am - 4pm. The display is on now until September 30 with an artist reception on the 30th, 2 - 4pm. Admission is by donation. <br />

The latest in Hoffman's Call of the wild series has landed in local quilt stores. This is my version of the Elk panel. Click <a href="http://www.hoffmanfabrics.com/product-category/hoffman-spectrum-digital/call-of-the-wild/">here</a> if you would like to see all the digital panels they have developed so far. The blue tones in this panel were so exciting to work with.<br />

<br />
It took a little while to figure out what I wanted to do with the Racoon panel. Finally I zoned in on the geese flying in the sky and decided that flying geese blocks on the side would work.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOMzPXYCQjHNOaar2Bk8xkb6F2zormTYprAtqP-OoiR2qtlHstnIU7o_0Fu04bED_opc6ur8FH7nqP4-1THUTBQA33Jau0AABZ6mqNe6rwn8UtFGVGC-hJxO0rxiAyybQyej8KrAqO-w/s1600/IMG_5229.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOMzPXYCQjHNOaar2Bk8xkb6F2zormTYprAtqP-OoiR2qtlHstnIU7o_0Fu04bED_opc6ur8FH7nqP4-1THUTBQA33Jau0AABZ6mqNe6rwn8UtFGVGC-hJxO0rxiAyybQyej8KrAqO-w/s320/IMG_5229.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The quilting on both quilts was fairly simple all over curves. They were samples for Trendtex and needed to be finished in a hurry, so simple it was.<br />
<br />
Hope you are having a great day!!! Take care.<br />

<br />
Today's quilt is made from "Sunday Supper" by Sweetwater for Moda I fell in love with this line when it first came out this spring. However, life has been a little busy, so I just finished the quilt this week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrV8cBB81poJDpLIbpsdpn2kTQ4jr9YKpxrumU4IVDf4ickD7pParf4Aj0eZO5X7poCHZg74dtQUc3idFMKsjfJQltb1rK6pZHZQwjAUZuvXA7TYfcQX6j7MAKjNo1G22qjdx57p7TGw/s1600/IMG_5405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrV8cBB81poJDpLIbpsdpn2kTQ4jr9YKpxrumU4IVDf4ickD7pParf4Aj0eZO5X7poCHZg74dtQUc3idFMKsjfJQltb1rK6pZHZQwjAUZuvXA7TYfcQX6j7MAKjNo1G22qjdx57p7TGw/s320/IMG_5405.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The pattern I used is "Meadow" by Corey Yoder. It is in the book Scraps made simple. There are several patterns in this book that I want to make, when I get a minute. LOL!<br />
<br />
I hope that you all are having a wonderful summer. There is a chance that the smoke here in BC will ease up a little. With ratings between 8 (high) and 49 (extreme) on the air quality index here in Kamloops, it has been difficult for anyone to spend time outside enjoying our summer. Fingers crossed wishing for rain! </div>

The latest Cotton + Steel fabrics are hitting the shelves. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNcw8-s52XTm7cdbnWC18IgF0QJEWB6jk6Ac0G3Pes97VqkB23cKi45IMdJ2_9UmNs8rJVycj7iAcVNIsbY-K8q715YUO6gWA9vS58e0KSPBDe_Va_3_PiHJhFfQb4HL0cTw2_TLndhQ/s1600/IMG_5256.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1225" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNcw8-s52XTm7cdbnWC18IgF0QJEWB6jk6Ac0G3Pes97VqkB23cKi45IMdJ2_9UmNs8rJVycj7iAcVNIsbY-K8q715YUO6gWA9vS58e0KSPBDe_Va_3_PiHJhFfQb4HL0cTw2_TLndhQ/s320/IMG_5256.jpg" width="244" /></a></div>
<br />
I was in a rush for my pictures, so this is what you get! This is Managerie by Rifle Paper Co. The pattern is Gridwork by Running Doe Quilts for Villa Rosa Designs. A great pattern that works up really quick.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4f3yvFikzaY1enNXB1t0kmOOntFbZ0R9W4CJ5O6JRqvrDcMAQE0nLZZZEt-PL-oX2E8bdGZWo30BcJbHG2Ok_W0twCk8OpMlq87_d2fScGsbUVilOmn3NeMrW5y2WDhATdemvRnSWtw/s1600/IMG_5255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1201" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4f3yvFikzaY1enNXB1t0kmOOntFbZ0R9W4CJ5O6JRqvrDcMAQE0nLZZZEt-PL-oX2E8bdGZWo30BcJbHG2Ok_W0twCk8OpMlq87_d2fScGsbUVilOmn3NeMrW5y2WDhATdemvRnSWtw/s320/IMG_5255.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Magic Forest by Sarah Watts is the next line. Once again it is a Villa Rosa pattern called River Queen. A little more attention was needed in the cutting to make sure all the horses are upright.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_29vbvwFdSqYpnJmr2rjvYs9J47Y52HppoEqpb30hZ_Da-yDY8tDAJoIYseuR6ghUQGKbFAf_0czlLW2mIiAOZXT05QycfWWpKvjJwp6xXTRj3uIGo4HWf-HGM5zAoEEcUDIdWw7T1w/s1600/IMG_5252.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_29vbvwFdSqYpnJmr2rjvYs9J47Y52HppoEqpb30hZ_Da-yDY8tDAJoIYseuR6ghUQGKbFAf_0czlLW2mIiAOZXT05QycfWWpKvjJwp6xXTRj3uIGo4HWf-HGM5zAoEEcUDIdWw7T1w/s320/IMG_5252.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This line is Lagoon by Rashida Coleman-Hale. The pattern was featured in the artwork from Spring Market, and will eventually by on the web page. I didn't have access to the pattern, so I drafted it up on EQ and made it up. Since then I have figured out a much easier way to make it, but more about that this fall.<br />
<br />
Have a great day everyone and stay safe.<br />
