Happy Canada Day!!!!!

150 years young July 1, 2017.  What a party it will be.  It just seams like yesterday that we were celebrating our 100th birthday.

I am still plugging away on my Northcott blocks.  I missed my goal of having the top together by July 1st.  I do have a new goal to have it all done by the end of the year.  Hmmm.  Hopefully I make that one.  This block is from Wee Folks Sewing & Quilt Shoppe in Selkirk Ont.  It is so Canadian!!!!

Yesterday was my oldest Grandson's graduation from elementary school.  The school put a wonderful ceremony together for all the kids.  Way to go Tyrese.

Till next time, wishing all my Canadian friends a Happy Canada Day and all my American friends a happy July 4th.  It's great that both our birthdays are so close together.  One big party.

Time for Knitting

Knitting has been part of my life, long before I learned how to quilt.  My Grandma Bailey had taught me how as a little girl, and I have dabbled in it all my life.  I knit numerous sweaters for my kids and nieces and nephews.
With the new yarns that are available, it is such an indulgence to pick up a luxurious yarn at my favourite little shop Knit 2 Yarns.  Last week was knit in public day, and I did stop by Carla's shop and pick up a little something for myself.

This is a Shawl I just gave away, knit from yarn I had picked up at Carla's last year.  Just like quilt fabric, sometimes the yarn has to age a little before it is used.  The pattern is from the book Sock-Yarn Shawls by Jen Lucas.
I have been knitting up a storm lately with an upcoming new addition to the family, so I'm sure I'll be posting more projects soon.

The Northcott blocks are coming along.  This is the block from Along Came Quilting in Calgary. The pieces all came in the kit laser cut and ready to fuse in place.  What a bonus.  It took longer to stitch down than to actually fuse.  Thanks to Hailey for picking this one up for me.

Continuing on with the Christmas theme from last week, I am currently quilting a darling little appliqué quilt for Iva.  As always, her hand work if exquisite.

Snowberry

Continuing on with the Christmas theme, here is today's offering.

This is "Snowberry" by 3 Sisters for Moda.  I had found several quilts on line using this idea for trees, but the all had to many seams.  I drafted mine eliminating all unnecessary seams and this is the result.  I liked this one so much that it just might have to live in my house for a while.

These two Northcott blocks are from Atlantic Fabrics in Nova Scotia.  the C is from Dartmouth and the A is from Halifax.  I am trying hard to get more blocks done.  Lucy posted pictures of hers quilted so.....  LOL.  I'm trying!

Last Friday was a fabulous day for a road trip.  The six of us headed to Lillooet as a surprise road trip for Mom and Sonja.  Unfortunately the Kaoham train had been cancelled for the day.  We didn't let that spoil our day though.  We headed to Seton lake for a picnic, stopped for a whine tasting at Fort Berens Winery and then headed to Horstings Farm Market for a little look see.  A Grand Adventure!

Christmas???????

Yes, in the quilting world it is time to think Christmas.  The newest Christmas fabric will be hitting store shelves shortly.  This quilt is made using Sweetwater's Hometown Christmas Edition by Moda Fabrics.
I usually crop the feet out of the quilt pics but I thought the little skiff of snow might make you think Christmas thoughts.  The quilt was made in January when the Sales Reps for Trend-Tex where hitting the roads to sell Christmas to the Stores for 2017.

The little present blocks were simple to put together, and lots of fun to quilt random straight lines on.

Now to more recent adventures.

Last Sunday I was teaching a Modern Meshwork Class.  The participants had some great colour choices.

More fun with the tri-colour weaves.  Thanks ladies for your adventurous weaving!
