Retreat Show and Tell

At the retreat on the weekend we had a show and tell on Saturday night.  Here are a few of the projects that were presented.

A very talented group of women!!!!!

We had a fat quarter raffle and the winner of the Orange fat quarters dressed for the occasion.

To say she was excited over her win was an understatement.

Thanks to Betty and Hailley for putting on a fabulous retreat!

Wish Upon A Star

This quilt was made from Sweetwater's "Wishes" fabric, as well as a few scraps from a previous line.  It was funky and fun to do.  I can't wait to move it into my class rotation at Katja's.

I have been MIA on the blog lately, I'm sorry.  I was at Kajta's to meet a friend and to take a picture of this quilt.  Somehow I managed to leave my camera behind.  I guess I was having such a great visit with everyone there that I just simply forgot it.  Well, it took me a bit to realize I didn't have it and then the hunt began.  The store didn't have it, my friend didn't pick it up, so where was it?  The group that was using the class room for a quilt day had picked it up thinking it belong to one of their friends.  Thank goodness!  My camera came home and I am once again functional.

I was away for retreat for the weekend, and what a great retreat it was.  Thanks to Betty and Hailey for hosting us all!  I will post a few pics shortly.

Kamloops Modern Quilting Group

The Kamloops Modern Quilting Group had it's second meeting this past Saturday.  I offered to post the minutes and pictures for members of the group to view.

Minutes - Meeting - March 8, 2014 - 1 PM

Chaired by Katja - 14 members attended.

Carla showed a group of modern quilts as well as individual blocks, most of them done as block exchanges with internet participants.  She talked about the pluses and minuses of internet interaction, commitment being a necessity as it affects a lot of people.  It has been a positive experience for her and she would encourage people to try it.  The quilts were beautiful and interesting and blocks seemed to mesh well with all others.

Show and tell - Most people had something to show - ranging from finished modern quilts to the block challenge "make a modern block - 12".  Everyone who got up explained what, in their opinion, made it a modern block, i.e.. fabrics, colours, pattern, quilting, etc.  Many positive critiques were given as well. With group participation, a challenge was chosen for next meeting;  "Hot Pink-outside the box."

Next meeting - April 12, 2014
See you all there!

"Make A Splash"

This quilt uses Moda's newest pre-cut, "Slice."

The quilt was introduced at Quilt Market last fall.  I have been waiting impatiently for the background blue to arrive at Katja's.  It finally arrived so the quilt hit the top of the to do list.

I had pictures of the quilting on the original quilt, so I quilted it much the same.  The quilt is now hanging at Katja's so pop in if you get a chance and have a look!

This little gem is finally finished.  The top was made way back when I was teaching stack-n-whack.  At least 13 years ago.  Yikes!  It has been languishing in my basket of unfinished tops.  I pulled it out and quilted it up.  It's ready for a new home.

Speaking of my basket of tops.  At the start of 2013 I set  a goal of having half of the 32 tops finished.  Well……….I didn't quite make it.  I was down to 19 at the end of the year and then added 4 to it, for a total of 23 unfinished tops.  Once again I'm setting a goal of having half of them finished by the end of the year.  It's already March, so I had better get at it!

The weather is finally starting to feel like spring.  I hope you have sunshine wherever you are!  Happy quilting.

Sonja's Farmer's Wife Quilt

Sonja's Farmer's Wife Quilt is stunning!  See for yourself.

The Cone shaped border is fabulous.  I am glad that she has to add the bias binding.  Lol.  It will be stunning when it is finished.

Thanks Sonja for letting me work on your amazing quilt!!!!!!!!!
