A Sunday Full of Hexagons

Today I decided it was finally time to quilt my Hexagon Quilt!

After putting it on the frame I had to decide on the quilting.  With 83 hexagons to quilt it was time to be a little creative.

There really isn't a ditch in English Paper Piecing so I decided to stitch around the outer edge of each Hexagon.  My favourite little filler of swirls was used in the triangle background pieces. Some blocks like this one had enough going on so I simply stitched around the pieces to let the fabric speak for itself.

Other blocks looked like flowers and needed some petals to add a little life.

And still others needed a touch of whimsy to fill in the spaces.  I had a lot of fun coming up with ideas for each hexagon.  As soon as it is bound I will post pics of the completed quilt.  Over a year in the making but so worth the effort.

  2. it certainly is worth the effort ...it looks wonderful, and, by changing the quilting it stops that creeping boredom that can mean it takes ANOTHER year to finish the project xx lol x WELL DONE x

  3. So amazing! And fun! Looks really good. That is becoming my favorite thing to do custom in blocks. Stretches your brain. My machine is not working. Have to take it to Hfx (2hr drive) for service. Have only had it sense Oct. It is worse than the car not working! Needless to say it is a bummer.

  9. I came back to have another look at this quilt. It is such a beauty. I was thinking it would be a good one to make cards from. I see people do that with prints of their quilts paintings etc. A good way to show case your quilts.
