A Blast From The Past

This is my B.C. Sampler resurrected from the unfinished basket of tops.  The top was completed in 2002ish.  It's been so long even Katja who designed it, wasn't sure of the date.  I had quilted several of these quilts for friends so I had put mine away for a later date. Finally, it is done.

Not only done, but on a bed.  The spare room was painted blue so this quilt fit in perfectly.

This is my first Northcott block from Alberta.  A Special thanks to Hayley for picking this one up for me.  It is from My Sewing Room in Calgary.  What is more perfect from Cowtown than a Cowboy hat?  Love it!

Till next time, have a great day!

Compositions

The latest quilt off the frame is made from "Compositions" by Basic Grey.  I love everything about this line.  Great background fabrics or put them together to make a quilt similar to the one below.

This design is one of my favourites for showing off fabric.

The quilting is fairly simple with a fern type design in the stars and wavy lines in the background.

The fun never stops with patterns from Funky Friends Factory.  This is Hannah the Hedgehog.

She is out playing in the snow because we are all hoping this is the last chance to do this.  The kit for Hanna will be available at Katja's shortly.

Hillside Houses

In an effort to finish a few of my quilt tops, I pulled this one out and threw some thread at it.

It is the Hillside Houses quilt from a quilt-along hosted by Pretty Little Quilts.  Click here if you would like more information.

This little house block is on it's way to Montreal.  The Montreal Modern Quilt Guild is asking for donations of house blocks to make quilts for the Canadians who were victimized in the terror attack on the Mosque in Quebec.  For more information check out their blog here.  A good friend told me about the project so if you are reading this, pass it on to your friends.

This week's Northcott block is designed by Red Barn Quilt Shop in Campbell River.  Thanks Geri for picking it up for me.  It is the Kermode Bear which is a rare sub-species of the Black Bear, living in the Central and North Coast of B.C.

I was having a hard time distinguishing the fish from the bear, so I embroidered a jaw line for the bear.  What block should I do next?  So many choices.

Oreo

Oreo the Orca is my latest stuffy made from a Funky Friends Factory pattern.

This was a test run before I make the sample for Katja's.  As always the patterns are easy to follow and I love the result.

This weeks quilting included this intricate appliqué. I almost hyperventilated every time I had to go near those tiny little circles with my size 18 needle.  The circles are about 1/4 inch across and so perfect.

This weeks Northcott block is from Cottage Quilting in Kelowna.  I found the pattern a little confusing so I just made up my own method of achieving the result pictured on the pattern.

My Gammill was having an issue with not speeding up immediately upon starting so I ask Doug to check the brushes on the motor.  To say they were a little worn is an understatement.  The one on top is the new brush.  Thanks to Kawatha Quilting System in Ontario for their quick service getting me my parts.  My machine is almost 17 years old and has been so reliable.

This is a proud Grandma picture.  Our youngest Granddaughter was in her first speed skating event.  At four years old she was so very serious.  She was not the fastest skater, but probably the fastest at getting up each time she fell.  Such a cute little girl.  Her older sister also competed and was a great help all day long.
